since the word 'suction' makes the average person thing 'vacuum' or 'suction pads' which when you have to try and pull straight up, it can be a violent *pop* to make it release from its surface
But with snails its not like that and when you start to lift, they lift with you
Its strong enough to hold them up, but not strong enough to really prevent them from being moved if something wanted to move them. Suction is the proper way to describe it, but it also can lead someone to unknowingly assume its *much* stronger and would make it impossible to pick a snail up
The 'suction' isn't the same as a suction cup that would have a much stronger seal. While they can hold themselves up, it takes very little force to lift them, as they arent truely suctioned to their surfaces.
If they were able to actually suction themselves to a surface, it *would* be bad for them
It just occurred to me that I thought Pombon sounded familiar

-with whatever they were on. They arent suction cupped to their surface and giving them a quick lift without squeezing has never injured my outdoor snails.
Now if you try and pick them up by squeezing them or trying to poke something under them, thats a whole different story
Ive come across the blog a handful of times, they do nature articles and seem well researched from the few times Ive crossed paths. Enough for me to trust them.
And as well that Ive taken care of wild snails in my garden and have never had an issue with picking them up or transferring them-
The difference is less picking them up and *how* you pick them up. Theres nothing wrong with getting them to retract first, but the bigger issue comes from acting like thats the only way to do it (and if you didn't or couldnt wait that 'welp you killed it' for picking it up when you didn't)

I've read fanfic longer than the entirety of Dune that hit me just as deep as any 'original' story has.
The only difference is one is provided for free as a hobby for many people while the other is paid for by the reader.
