British Columbia has had a tax on non-primary residences (and the extra taxes on foreign property purchases) for a while, and it hasn’t made the ultra wealthy any less wealthy. Plus studies show it has created more longer term rentals in the market in many areas.

While there is a lot of debate over exactly what academic freedom entails, I think we can universally state that this crosses the line!

This is exactly right. The Onion quietly left Twitter a month ago and... our weekly subscribers went up. It's because we're doing well here, on Instagram and on YouTube.

As a business, being on Twitter is somewhere between useless or detrimental, unless you're selling boner pills.

"Dow 50,000" Sound Nice. Until Justin Wolfers Shows You That U.S. Markets Are Coming 21st Out of 23.
"Dow 50,000" Sound Nice. Until Justin Wolfers Shows You That U.S. Markets Are Coming 21st Out of 23. What does “Dow 50,000” actually tell you—anything about the economy, or just that a number got bigger? Dow 50,000 is a milestone, not a measurement. The level of the Dow is basically arbitrary: it’s…

The Dow was at 43,488 when Trump took office. It just hit 50,000.

So if you had invested $43,488 in the US, you would now have $50,000. But if you had invested the same amount in the rest of the world, you would now be worth $60,000.

This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.

This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.

Went down the rabbit hole of #Oilers depth in goal, and was surprised how intriguing the pipeline is! Not counting Jarry, Ingram, Pickard, & Tomkins (the veterans in NHL and AHL), the Oilers have Ungar (age -24, AHL - 5-0 record, 1.38GAA, .937%, 1 SO; ECHL - 5-1-4 record, ~1.50GAA, and .944%) …

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has stated that the 1918 flu pandemic was caused by a lab virus from vaccine research, a defective influenza vaccine. Let’s analyze what a lie this is. First, in 1918, 107 years ago, virology was in its infancy

Graphic with a blue background and large white text reading “DEAR AMERICAN FRIENDS.” Below is a screenshot of a post explaining that Canada does not have CBS, that a “60 Minutes” episode aired normally in Canada, and stating that Canadian networks are not subject to U.S. government interference. The post ends with “We’re not under a dictatorship. You are.”
