Entirely natural, though, for a full back to scythe down a flying winger. Psycho was a complete natural.

The Power of Poetry

with things falling apart
and anarchy let loose,

it was only poetry, he found,
which had any use,

so he reached for his copy
of The Complete Works of Yeats

and bludgeoned the President
of the United States

On World Poetry Day, here’s a reminder of the power of poetry and its potential to change the world.

Well I can recommend climbing the steps to the top of the south stand for building strength 🙂 (not to mention the walk to & from town)

The 1953 Soviet propaganda illustration depicting "War" served at a restaurant table while other social needs are ignored by Yuliy Ganf.

Published in 1953 for Krokodil magazine, it satirizes Western, particularly American, prioritization of militarism over social welfare.

How Much I Dislike the Daily Mail

I would rather
eat Quavers that are six weeks stale,
blow dry the man bun of Gareth Bale,
listen to the songs of Jimmy Nail,
than read one page of the Daily Mail.

If I was bored
in a waiting room in Perivale,
on a twelve-hour trip on Network Rail,
halfway through a circumnavigational sail,
I would not read the Daily Mail.

I would happily read
the autobiography of Dan Quayle,
1001 Things You Can Do With Kale,
selected scripts from Emmerdale,
if it meant I didn’t have to read the Daily Mail.

Far better to
stand outside in a storm of hail,
scratch a blackboard with a fingernail,
be swallowed by a humpback whale,
than have to read the Daily Mail.

If I was blind
and it was the only thing in Braille,
I still would not read the Daily Mail.

All down to the good people of Gorton and Denton.

But I have to say, I did meet some lovely people on Sunday and I'm glad I got involved, even if it was for only a few hours.
