Human-faced flowers aren't always cute, sweet little creatures. Sometimes they have too many eyes. Sometimes they want to devour souls.

Sometimes the only thing standing in the way of your goals… is you.
Agreed!
My dream “Niche IP” would have been Bernice Summerfield, but somehow I actually did that? Would love to write her again one day, though. She’s just so much fun to write for.
A dragon perches at the top of a pyramid shaped building in this digital painting of a modern city at night. The colors are gray and gold. The dragon is black lit with warm light. People gather on a rooftop to watch it
"Modern Dragons" launches tomorrow 🐉
POV: you're a bee enjoying the bluebells 🐝
Providing a pop of spring colour, these beautiful blooms are also a fantastic source of early-season pollen and nectar for pollinators emerging from hibernation. What a sight after the winter months!
This is adorable and I want it and I’m sad that it seems the artisan, Pegasus Bespoke Furniture, no longer make any: www.pegasusbespokefurniture.co.uk/product/bras...
Oh! Okay, getting actually really niche now: writing for a MoonDreamers reboot. The perfect mix of sci fi and fantasy. I used to watch the videos we had of that at home until the videos physically wore out and couldn't be played anymore.
Speaking of niche IPs, Writing a book set in critical role's Exandria would also be a dream come true.
I want to write about the future generations of Henry Crabgrass. Or something niche like that. That would be neat
I've already written for Bernice Summerfield (under a different name) but when I'm well enough I'd love to write for other niche corners of the dr who IP, like a gallifrey story that's neck deep in obscure gallifrey lore and worldbuilding, or a story about the Word Lords. One day. That would be fun
Oh this is me every time, what I love to do is write *around* it and then spiral into the thing itself. A monologue by a main character! A passionate speech by a villain! A newspaper article, bitchy online review, fake song lyrics, therapy session -- anything in the WORLD but not the story itself.
A fallen tree rotting with moss all over it in a small wooded area in spring, with leaf litter on the ground and barely any leaves beginning to grow on the surrounding living trees. A pond is in the background.
Woodsy Sunday in April.
It sucks that if a fellow author reaches out to you, you have to suspect it’s an AI impersonation scam. But that’s where we are these days. Another reason to hate AI ( and scammers)
Unsolicited writing advice, no. 2961:
Your voice is unique. It’s a combination of many factors: your upbringing and background; the books you’ve read; your personality. Some people may not like it, but it’s yours. Keep it authentic. Trying to sound like someone else is a betrayal of who you are.
Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage. A woman answers the door. We have come for the child, says the hooded figure So soon? she asks It is time, says the hooded figure. The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card! What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading! For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman, the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them. Do not cry mother. I am a writer now.

If being left behind by ai would mean they would actually leave me alone and not force their ai on me, I would be happy to be left in the dust
Don't let anyone stand in your way.
Don't let anyone tell you you're not amazing.
Don't let anyone tell you can't become a powerful witch of the wildlands, the first ghost on the moon, or a tugboat captain with dark secrets and a heart of gold.
Happy Birthday!

To add to this excellent thread: AI detectors DO NOT WORK. At all. They are wildly unreliable, offering false positives and false negatives so much that if you are paying for one you are being grifted.
The only one I can think of that was pushed almost as hard, is NFTs, and that was fairly recent too.
-And luckily the popularity died off before it gained too much traction, because people realised it sucked. And it was harder to sell the silly idea of NFTs solving all your problems
Cover of Where We Stand, Where We Fall. Big moon in starry sky. Alien city below. Lots of blues.
Hector, a magnificent biewer terrier, reclining in his stolen Slanket.
It is two weeks until April 30th, when Where We Stand, Where We Fall is out! (www.hernebooks.com/product-page...) Also, here is picture of Hector who is also celebrating that day for he will be five years old!
Sometimes, if a story idea isn't clicking, or it feels a bit weak, I find combining it with another story idea helps.
And vice versa, if I'm writing a story and realise there's Too Much going on, sometimes separating it out into two different stories helps. Or turning it into a series.

Picture of a sketchbook page featuring a little painting of a few plants. Three colors sketch: prussian blue, pink and light green.
Bluesky is down, let's sketch...
A book cover graphic for The Shape of Monsters by CL Hellisen. Around it are words meant to make you interested. They read: toxic sibling relationships. raising the dead. creepy gothic house. magic is a curse. feral non-binary anti-villains fast burn fuckery, slow burn falling.
This is how we do these graphics right?
These are things people want in their fantasy novels about mages and monsters.
Well, they're the things I want, anyway.
Playing a game of 'is it my internet playing up, or is something going wrong with bluesky' again
Everyone, meet Tiny Tim.
Tiny Tim is being hand-reared by the lambing team at Shugborough. He's smaller than the other lambs, but building up strength to join them outside. Here he is modelling a jumper knitted for him by Vicky from the lambing team ❤️
If we're talking about the most pretentious, most ambitious goal I can think of? I'd love to replace the success of That Transphobic Wizard Series as a Trans-friendly alternative.
-But alas, that is just a dream. I'll settle for just getting it published, that's a smaller pretentious dream in itself
