3/3 No single intervention will work. The evidence points to stronger platform regulation, media literacy in schools, and investment in trusted community relationships. But cities can't hold the line alone — this needs a coordinated national response that matches the speed and scale of the threat.

2/3 The research finds misleading narratives describing London as 'in decline' have grown rapidly and persistently. The 'outrage economy' is both profitable and purposeful: for some actors sowing division is the explicit goal, for others it's about money data.london.gov.uk/dataset/misi...
False narratives about London are being manufactured by state-backed actors, extremist groups and profit-driven content farms. Different motivations, same effect. Last night Mayor of London @london.gov.uk published new GLA research into who's doing it and why www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... 🧵 1/3

Working in local gov tech adoption for 15+ years, I've never seen anything move as fast as AI did across London boroughs this year. Read about this and more in my end of year review chiefdigitalofficer4london.medium.com/chief-digita...
NEW: Plans are underway for a tourist levy to supercharge London's economy. It could raise *millions* to fund major improvements in our city.
London is the greatest city in the world, but there’s always more to do! A tourist levy would make it an even better place to live and visit for everyone.

Quite!
In London, hate will never win.
I know many people, particularly from London's diverse communities, are feeling extremely worried following the events this weekend. It takes me back to how I felt growing up in the ’70s and ’80s, when far-right political parties marched on our streets. The leaders of the far-right are once again attempting to hijack our flag, with minorities being intimidated and fear, hatred and division being sown. As Londoners, and as proud Brits, we must unite to reject the far-right – just as we have many times before. But it’s going to take a huge effort from us all – from people of all races and backgrounds, who are willing to stand up for our British values of equality, inclusion and mutual respect. As Mayor, I'll continue to do everything I can to challenge the far-right and all those who peddle the politics of fear and division. I urge other politicians and Londoners to do the same. MAYOR OF LONDON, SADIQ KHAN
We must unite against those who seek to divide us.
Congratulations to Claire Waxman on her new role as National Victims Commissioner.
Her commitment as London Victims' Commissioner has brought significant changes here and across the country, and I know she will continue to build a criminal justice system that is fit for purpose.
Graphic with the headline “London is the greatest city in the world” set against a bright view of the River Thames with the Shard, Tower Bridge and the city skyline. The text celebrates what makes London special: regularly voted the number one city in the world, incredible diversity with over 300 languages spoken, world-class transport, world leader in finance tech and life sciences, best museums and galleries many free to visit, world-leading nightlife, food sport and music for every taste, host to the world’s best sporting events, home to seven Premier League clubs, globally-ranked universities, a city where you can be yourself and love who you love, and a place for everyone.
Ignore the haters. London is the 🐐

I’m keen to put summer streets dining and later opening hours back on the menu this summer.
Our world-class restaurants, cafes and bars have been restricted through bureaucracy and rules. The new £300,000 summer fund will help to kickstart al fresco dining and extend opening hours.
