MLS is packing an entire month of notable stuff into one Wednesday in which 8 teams aren't even playing

Per Fotmob, D.C. United entered tonight with a 360-minute goalless streak, 4 goals (30th in MLS), and per Fotmob, 7.02 xG (29th).
Naturally the Atlantic Cup played out as a truly bonkers 4-4 draw!

Weiler said he didn't view his shape at Philly as a 442, and tonight was another step towards DCU being in a 4231 in possession.
Their low block was still 442, but in possession & in their initial shape after a turnover, Hopkins clearly had a midfielder's job tonight.
Finding out only now that there's a goalkeeper goal in the mix here
A screencap of a donation confirmation screen from New American Pathways. It reads "Thanks Jason! Your card ending in (redacted) has been billed $82.12." Below that text is a very low-res photo of Spencer Hall.
It's always go Sharks out here
I'm gonna match this as soon as I get done with this game report and presser
DCU's xG tonight is now 3.41, which is more than they put together in their last 4 MLS games combined
Posted about 10 seconds before Baribo made it a hat trick, 4-4 because yeah sure ok
DCU's previous season-high xG was 1.61 at Chicago, and that took a penalty kick.
Currently listed at 2.58 for tonight.
DC Power FC beats Fort Lauderdale United 4-0 tonight at Audi Field, their largest victory in club history. They are now above the playoff line in the Gainbridge Super League, level on points with Dallas Trinity but ahead on goal differential.
Michael Bradley thinks Hansi Flick's high line is for cowardly and meek
Easily the liveliest half of DCU's 2026 season, for better and for worse.
Herrera/Hefti causing RBNY hell down the right, Hopkins' off-ball movement has been good as well. However, if they have spacing issues like they did for ~25 minutes there, RBNY can easily find more goals going the other way
Didn't make the analysis/reactions piece from the Philly game, but after the Knoxville loss Weiler was frustrated with Hopkins & said they needed to talk.
On Sat., Weiler said he challenged Hopkins to truly impact the game, & praised him for doing so vs. Philly. Seems to have carried over tonight.
DCU's got Hopkins doing that, but Donkor and Forsberg are playing in the half-spaces and when Mehmeti isn't available, RBNY can just feed those two instead. It's almost better for DCU when it's Mehmeti receiving instead
What's funny is that DCU does do well creating the kinds of turnovers Montréal did in their wins over RBNY. The method to get there is different, but they were doing it before Hall's opener.
But out of possession, they just can't do anything about Donkor. He's shredding them off-ball.
DCU has defended in a 442 all season, & the whole thing about a 442 is you have to be compact to prevent the midfield from getting overloaded, & to protect yourself between the lines.
Red Bulls have stretched them out, & from there they get their touches between the lines, untracked runners, etc.
DC Power FC's Alyssa Walker dons a Spider-Man mask after scoring against Fort Lauderdale United FC.

DCU with a positive start, but then immediately dealing with the fact that the Red Bulls are the faster team by some distance. Donkor, Marshall-Rutty, Mosquera already all winning races over distance after just 2 minutes.
DCU lineup to face the Red Bulls:
Johnson; Hefti, Bartlett, Rowles, Kurokawa; Peltola, Servania; Herrera, Hopkins, Peglow; Baribo
Bench: Bono, Farr, Markovic, Antley, Kijima, Stroud, Turner, Clark, Murrell
As noted earlier on GLS, Munteanu is out with a knock. Pirani off the team sheet again.
Green Line Soccer was back at Spirit training Tuesday, with plenty of updates from Trinity Rodman, Esme Morgan, & Adrián González.
For subscribers, their thoughts on Croix Bethune's return, notes on player availability after the intl. break, & how the next 4+ weeks are the most grueling of 2026.
Lee Dixon's slow descent into hell calling Burnley-Man City has been good comedy
After delays, Green Line Soccer is back with analysis of 3 major items from an otherwise unremarkable draw at Philly.
A deep dive on Pirani and why Weiler dropped him, some thoughts on Markovic's first MLS start (including exclusive quotes from the man himself), and the latest on Munteanu.
This is one of the most perverse things I've ever heard
Wrote about what Bournemouth changed to get so good. Plenty of media/politics jokes to be made about how you can improve your organization by shit-canning David Brooks.
Also they stopped pressing and it made their DMs and fullbacks better.

Appreciate it, thank you!
Forty-four!
Subscribers will get an overdue DCU reactions piece (lost my Sunday and Monday, sorry folks!) and Spirit training notebook tomorrow, which is not my birthday but that's fine, do not hold that fact against April 22
Very informative answers in here, if also answers that I figure will go down like a lead balloon
Today!!
I have, despite myself, turned 44. It is certainly an age that people can be.
And because our lives have become entirely about the exchange of capital, I am about to commodify my own birthday:
