ANOTHER death in ICE custody. That makes 14 in 2026, and we’re not even done with March yet.
This is on track to be the deadliest year for immigration detention in the U.S. ever. Period.
BREAKING: A federal court ruled ICE must provide access to legal counsel for people detained at the Florida detention facility known as "Alligator Alcatraz."
The Trump administration cannot deny people their right to an attorney.
Litigating this case
I am so proud and grateful to all of the detained people, families, attorneys, law firms, and co-counsel, as well as the huge community of advocates and fighters who have been fighting on behalf of immigrants nationwide. Justice prevailed today!
This is an important victory for all immigrants who are held at the Alligator Alcatraz facility. The court recognized the critical importance of detainees' First Amendment right to communicate with their attorneys, despite ICE and Florida's attempts to deny constitutionally-required access. /5
3) post information about these protocols in detainee units in English, Spanish, and Creole; 4) maintain public postings about these protocols on its website. The court also required the defendants to maintain its new protocol of unscheduled in-person attorney visits, and granted class cert! /4
The court ordered ICE and the State of Florida to: 1) provide timely, free, confidential outgoing legal calls; 2) provide protocols for attorney-client communication to all detainees; /3
Thankful and grateful to the individual plaintiffs (H.C.R., H.P., and D.G.M.), and orgs Sanctuary of the South, Bilbao Law, and my co-counsel at @aclu.org @aclufl.bsky.social, and Americans for Immigrant Justice on this huge win. /2

NEW: More than 11,000. That’s how many US citizen children have a parent who has been detained under Trump, our new data analysis shows. When Doris Flores was separated from her four-month-old who was still breastfeeding, she turned to her pastor for help.

Thanks to @nytimes.com for this in-depth coverage of abuse faced by pregnant folks in ICE detention.
“It is alarming to hear how these women are being treated,” said Eunice Cho. “When people inform agents that they are pregnant, it’s not really being taken into consideration.”

This is fascinating. Yes, we should investigate corruption and glad handing. But at the end of the day, we should ask why we are spending billions for anyone to profit from the detention of immigrants in the first place.
Breaking: A federal judge has extended a construction halt on a Maryland warehouse the Trump administration is converting into a $215 million immigration detention facility — keeping work stopped through at least mid-April and setting an April hearing that could freeze the project for months more.
ICE has been deporting pregnant and postpartum immigrants. Now we know how many. 19thnews.org/2026/03/ice-... via @19thnews.org
