How the hypercuriosity of ADHD may have helped humans thrive | Aeon Essays ADHD isn’t merely a dysfunction. It’s best understood as an impulsive motivational drive for novel information

The framing of ADHD in terms of hypercuriosity offers a more perspective than either the clinical 'disability' on the one hand or the overcompensation of 'superpower' on the other.

Do you have a source for the maintenance coat quote? It’s something I regularly think about but I’ve never seen any research that can back me up.

(Experience tells me that DARPA figured this out in the 60s and everyone’s ignored it ever since)

@briamgilbert.bsky.social I think about Wanna Buy a Ghost all the time. I even used it as a Halloween costume one year. Thanks for reminding me about WaverlyFlams.

Did anyone suspect the twist or are Dropout cast members just more trusting than Nebula creators?

Did you do a magic trick with the bag?

A (fake) yard sign parody with multiple lines of text in rainbow-ish colors saying:

IN THIS HOUSE WE BELIEVE
TABS VS SPACES IS MOSTLY A BORING DEBATE
WHAT PEOPLE WANT IS CONSISTENCY
WHICH IS PRETTY EASY THESE DAYS
CONSIDERING PRETTIER EXISTS
AND STANDARDS LIKE .EDITORCONFIG
BECAUSE THE DX DOESN’T MATTER, YOU SHOULD HAVE A PREFERENCE FOR TABS
BECAUSE THEY ARE A BIT MORE ACCESSIBLE
BUT REALLY EVERY LANGUAGE SHOULD HAVE GOFMT LIKE GO HAS

Remembering that this was found to be offensive and against community guidelines on X and thus removed. Giving it a new home.

Instead of “growth pays for growth” as a guiding principle of planning, I propose a better alternative: “sprawl pays for sprawl”

My plea to parents is to take your children to libraries as much as your complicated parenting schedule can possibly allow. Help your children understand that this resource belongs to them and to the community, and that anyone attempting to take it away is stealing from them.

@hankgreen.bsky.social I have a crazy idea. What if the point of the grocery store was to make sure that everyone was eating 3 healthy meals a day. You have on-site dietitians, budgeters, meal prep, everything. Chewy Decimals System Librarians. And you make it a non-profit. And it’s the food bank.

Microsoft would push back against Trump order to suspend European cloud operations Company to change contracts amid concerns that services will get tangled in US-EU fight.

The mere suggestion that the United States could order its cloud firms to shut off foreign clients the Trump administration is feuding with is yet another reason to accelerate the creation of sovereign public cloud facilities.

Governments can’t give more contracts to Amazon, Microsoft, or Google.

I got 152 votes! That’s pretty cool. People lit up the when I said I wanted to tax billionaires. And they nodded along when I said that everyone deserved affordable food, clean water, and a place to live.

And we obviously need electoral reform. There’s a lot of votes yesterday that don’t count.
