I personally started really practicing art by doing free hand references of pokemon in a book I had.
I'm just saying for someone starting out it can be okay to practice.

its never okay to trace & sell. hell its a bit off-putting to trace something & post it even while crediting & with permission

oh I'm not saying that tracing is THE way to learn. in fact its one of the weakest ways to practice drawing. would be better to try free hand copying a specific reference.

but at the beginning tracing for yourself only can be a good way to make art seem a little less scary to a beginner artist

yeah, like, tracing is okay as long as its just practice. as long as you don't go around saying its yours.

same, I tend to comm artists that I enjoy the artstyle of, or artists who specialize in what I want drawn (i.e, pay a furry for a furry art piece. pay someone who draws tech for a robot art piece)

I've fallen for one of these scams once. something I tend to notice is they always have a really well done & good looking pfp & media tab (stolen no doubt) & then their art looks nothing like it.

I paid one of them for a pic of my feral cat sona & the finished product looked nothing like advertized
