I did an adashima pilgrimage around Gifu just last month. Walked along the Nagara river listening to the audiobook. Never felt closer to a work in my life.

I've been doing my own song translations lately instead of just editing into singable lyrics!

Was it worth reading an entire series for more Iruma yuri? Yeah! I'd say it was. Even despite vol 2

Iruma really likes to write about characters who've run from love their whole lives. Sayaka has run from love, tried and failed, and become cowardly as a result. After seeing her so afraid for a whole novel, that moment when she opens up is everything.

Vol 2 was not so great. Admittedly, a lot of why I found vol 2 so boring was because I really didn't care for Touko's character back in the original. And Sayaka's life at the time was ALL about Touko

Then vol 3 ended up being one of my favorites of Iruma's works. His idiosyncrasies shine

Oh yeah! I recently finished Regarding Saeki Sayaka. Honestly I read Bloom Into You (yagakimi) specifically to get to these spin off novels by Iruma.

Vol 1 was great. The portrait of a girl whose gay panic upended her entire way of life.

I've thought about 週くら lots and lots, but my favorite aspect of the series is the way the characters manage to turn their desperation into happy memories. I'll remember this volume forever and always

Read the first chapter of AdaShima SS2 in Japanese with my newfound dictionary-diving powers, and it turned me into a sobbing mess. Then went back to the end of 99.9 in English, which didn't hit me too hard the first time, but this time it totally took me out.

Ok, didn't expect Shuukura to get to me just as hard as Adashima did. Read for 16 hours straight

Hayasaki no Kuroyuri is one of the most important visual novels ever made. it's about queer young adults being oppressed by the adult heteronormative world and overcoming it.

adashima vol 10: beautiful devastation. Shimamura embraces pain she'd kept at arms length and lets a friendship crumble. It's such a massive mark of growth for someone usually content to go with the flow.
