We really do live in a trans media climate where I’ll meet random trannys and hear telephone echoes of the latest fear mongering trends but routinely learn that most of us don’t engage with each others music, books or know anything about the positives of our advancements as a community.

Gil Duran tweet: TLDR: Fascism in response to Palantir's long fascists screed on X.
"Your Account is Suspended" Message on X
The CEO of Palantir posted a fascist manifesto on X.
I pointed out that it was fascist—which resulted in a permanent suspension from X (my second time!).
So, when you hear the tweeters complaining that BlueSky is intolerant, remember why many of us came here in the first place.
My mother, who grew up in time to be the Counterculture, 10000% believed in this theory. "They didn't want anyone to turn out like us again," she'd say. "They wanted more control. So they razed education."
When you use AI to do your writing, you are telling your audience: “I deserve your attention, but you do not deserve my effort.”
The cyberattack on The British Library in October 2023 knocked out ebooks and almost ever other computer thing there for years.
Ebooks just came back. They were knocked out everywhere using the BL’s license (legal deposit libraries I think? More libraries?)
Distributed physical copies matter.
I've always been absolutist about maximizing our distro at LittlePuss, but I used to feel more complicated about it. I knew where I stood, but I could see how I might be wrong, possibilities in which I'd come to regret sacrifices made for that position. I feel less complicated these days.
“Forest Fights” in rural Virginia are bringing together white supremacist networks like the Wolves of Vinland and the Active Club movement, highlighting how staged combat events are being used to recruit new participants, and embed militant training within far-right organizing.

Amazing that in the national divorce the libs are getting the NFL, butter and cooking oil, being attracted to adult women, standup comedy, Bud Light, and now also Catholicism
I can think of a lot of more accurate and less flattering terms for dudes who travel to other countries to trap foreign women in subservient relationships than “passport bros”

The reason to do repentance work is not because you are BAD BAD BAD until you DO THESE THINGS but because we should care about each other, about taking care of each other, about making sure we’re all OK. Taking seriously that I might have hurt you – even inadvertently! even because I wasn’t at my best! – is an act of love and care. It is an opportunity to open my heart wider than it has been, to let in more empathy, more curiosity about how my choices or knee-jerk reactions have impacted you, have impacted others. To care about others’ perspectives. To let your experience matter, deeply, to me. To look at another person – or a community, or a team of people – and say: Where are you? What are you feeling and experiencing now, and how might I have (even unwittingly) brought you pain or difficulty? And to care about making that as right as I can. It’s an act of concern. And facing the harm that I caused is an act of profound optimism. It is a choice to grow, to learn, to become someone who is more open and empathetic.
Thinking a lot about this passage in @theradr.bsky.social’s brilliant, essential ON REPENTANCE AND REPAIR: Making Amends in an Unapologetic World.
I wish more people realized/cared that true repentance benefits the person doing the work, and society as a whole.

I’d say the number of people working on that feature doubled because of the legal risk involved, to me and the editor, sure, but more importantly to the leaker. GQ’s fashion spreads paid for those resources. Independent media can do it, too—but it needs resources. *Pay for journalism.*
Thread. I think of a time when I published a piece in GQ that involved leaked body cams of a police killing of an unarmed man. Besides the resources necessary to report it, the leaker needed to know the magazine had the legal resources to defend confidentiality. & I needed those lawyers.
Democracy will not come Today, this year Nor ever Through compromise and fear. I have as much right As the other fellow has To stand On my two feet And own the land. I tire so of hearing people say, Let things take their course. Tomorrow is another day. I do not need my freedom when I'm dead. I cannot live on tomorrow's bread. Freedom Is a strong seed Planted In a great need. I live here, too. I want freedom Just as you. Langston Hughes
Photo I took of these wonderful people (the faces of whom I’ve blacked out) singing happy Birthday to their lovely old dog at a bar I was at tonight in Portland
I was at a dog-friendly bar in NW Portland tonight and a table behind me started singing Happy Birthday and then I realized it wasn’t for a person but a really old dog who was wearing a crown and he was old and fucking adorable and I love this city
I appreciate this model for being a researcher so much. It's why I don't care if someone thinks I spend too much time on the impacts of my work or listening to what students and activists tell me are problems with higher ed.

Today I learned that JD Vance skipped RCIA, the Catholic Church's educational program for adult converts, and instead had a Dominican priest-friend baptize him after a crash course in right-wing heresy. These are lazy men who think they can fast-track/ChatGPT their way to Expertise.
Absolutely mystified by the recent uptick in white men asking us to let them become better people *in public office*. No?? Please go be a better person not on my dime and not when you’re representing the people you’re doing the slurs about??????

the basic theory of DOGE was that if powerful people said it was fine it didn’t matter what the law said.
I think proving that theory wrong is worth significant effort
