The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) Sounds the Alarm Over the Politicization of Alberta’s Electoral Map
Posts by JennThistle
Another voice raising concerns over Alberta's plan to redraw the electoral map, with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association saying the UCP's plan "casts a doubt over the equity and fairness of Alberta’s electoral process."
This is a major line being crossed by Alberta's UCP government. Throwing out the work of an independent boundaries committee is authoritarian and extremely anti-democratic.
Please contact Smith via form & phone:
I do not agree with the government drawing their own electoral boundary map. I expect the Alberta government to accept the boundary changes as defined by Alberta's independent Boundaries Commission.

If the UCP goes forward with this plan to gerrymander Alberta's electoral boundaries, Albertans of all partisan persuasions will be called upon to push back. And hard.

Today, Danielle Smith and the UCP caucus unveiled plans to rig the next election:
A new motion indicates the UCP's plans to manipulate the election maps for the next election in their favour, and without any requirement to consult the public.
This has never been done in Canadian history. /1
Amazon will pay $20.5 million to settle allegations that two of its Oregon data centers helped contaminate groundwater.
This is exactly why communities across the country are organizing to stop data centers — and winning.
Never doubt your power to change the system.

A scale illustration of the Earth and the Moon, with the Earth on the far left, lots of black, and then the Moon on the far right, about 30 Earth diameters away.
In honor of (hopefully) today's launch of NASA's Artemis II mission, the first crewed mission to orbit the Moon in more than 50 years, here is a to-scale graphic of exactly how far away the Moon actually is. (Click image to expand.) You could fit about 30 Earths between the Earth and the Moon!
Think about that..
electively, UCP circulates this survey. Not everyone gets it. The distribution list is based on how you previously answered other questions.
To help UCP get a more accurate results, share it.

I keep seeing people ask about the 25th Amendment.
Guys. His entire Cabinet is walking around in shoes that don’t fit because they’re scared to take them off.
The 25th is never happening.
This is Reedy. He’s so happy to share his favorite part of the day with you. 13/10 (TT: runreedyrun)
Just released from the Calgary Chamber of Commerce - a survey that says Alberta separation talk is already affecting more than a quarter of surveyed Calgary businesses:

As the White House posts videos blending real footage of its war in Iran with clips from movies and video games, this talk from @justinling.ca is incredibly timely.
It's this Wednesday evening, at Mount Royal University in Calgary. Also will be livestreamed.
And it's free!

Obama: Every day you wake up to things you just didn’t think were possible. Each day we’re told by those in high office to fear each other. Everywhere we see greed and bigotry being celebrated, and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength.
All of our living presidents who still have a sense of decency gathered to honor Rev. Jesse Jackson.
Respect recognizes respect.

The math doesn't lie.
Danielle Smith spent $17 million on "Alberta is Calling" to recruit new residents. But spent $0 on the infrastructure to support them.
Now that the bills are due and the services are failing, she’s pointing the finger at the very people she invited.

The provincial government is imposing the largest property tax increase in Calgary’s history.
Calgarians are facing more than double the increase of Edmonton.
+$339 per home in Calgary.
+$154 in Edmonton.
Albertans deserve a system that is transparent, balanced, and fair.
41 % increase in spending, but no new schools and no new hospitals.
If they didn't spend public dollars on public services, shouldn't the Finance Minister be able to tell us what they actually spent it on instead?
The provincial government has just imposed the largest property tax increase on Calgarians in history.
In 2026, Alberta is increasing its share of your property tax bill by 21.05%. Nearly 42% of every residential property tax dollar now goes to Province.
Danielle Smith is doubling Alberta's debt with nothing to show for it.
