...nominated for awards, but again I don't know many who have read them.

Probably says more about my slice of who I know than anything else, but, I have trouble resisting a good "name 5" meme.

I Dare is the capstone to the initial plot of the Liaden series, which had a huge online following but I've only ever met one person who has read them who wasn't introduced to them by me or the person to gave them to me.

Song for the Basilisk and The Arbitrary Placement of Walls were both...

It's very hard to find 5 that truly few others have read, but I can get five that almost no one I know seems to have read.

Lord Dunsany is so formative he was an inspiration to Tolkein, but it's rare for me to find someone who has read The King of Elfland's Daughter, let alone anything else.

What are 5 books you’ve read & loved that you sometimes feel no one else has?

1) Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls (Jane Lindskold)
2) Fifty-One Tales (Lord Dunsany)
3) I Dare (Lee and Miller)
4) The Arbitrary Placement of Walls (Martha Soukup)
5) Song for the Basilisk (Patricia McKillip)

Asking me to pick 5 books is like asking who's your favorite child (even accepting that this isn't "favorite"), but:
1. The Lord of the Rings (hey, he wrote it as one book, I'm not going to try to divide it)
2. Robots and Empire
3. Curse of Chalion
4. I Dare
5. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

A set of screenshots from DEEP SPACE NINE. An old Klingon throws his arms around Dax and shouts "Curzon, my beloved old friend!"

Dax returns the hug and says "I'm Jadzia now."

The Klingon grabs her shoulders, smiles, and says "Jadzia, my beloved old friend!"

Star Trek figured this out thirty years ago. It's not hard. Even an old, drunk Klingon got it.

_Now_ my years of Angbands and dungeon crawls would have me go left, my usual algorithm for making sure I explore all of an available space without missing anything. However, when I first encountered this screen I didn't have any of that yet, and so I prob would have gone north for that reason.

Even earlier, _The Shockwave Rider_ (same author as _Stand on Zanzibar_) is a proto-cyberpunk, and invented the word "worm" as a description of a computer phenomenon. What step along this progression becomes "cyberpunk" I will not try to speak to.

*sings "A Little Bit of Skynet as a Treat" to the tune of "Mambo No 5".*

Now I kind of want to do a reverse-Torment Nexus and write a short story called "A Little Skynet as a Treat".

A viral dog rescue from 2016 is now immortalized with a statue in Kazakhstan. When a dog fell into the Sayran reservoir, bystanders formed a human chain to pull him to safety. The statue is a reminder of the value of unity, solidarity and collective action. 14/10 for all

I can't say that I'll be boycotting Chili's as it has been years since I've been in one, and you can't really boycott a restaurant you already don't go to. That said, I'll be happy not to change my habits, transphobia leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The most impressive thing about the YouTube algorithm is how comprehensive it is.

No matter how many garbage AI "music" cover channels you block with the "Don't Recommend!" option, without ever clicking on or watching them at all, the algorithm can always find 6-10 more to push on your front page.

Nine games that are important to me, courtesy of my9games.com.

I resisted the urge to fill all 9 slots with Ultima games.

Only about 2.5 days left! If you miss the Kickstarter there's currently no other way to get the beautiful omnibus edition of this series so don't miss out.

Hey folks!

Due to a series of unforeseen expenses, I need to raise some cash before royalty season rolls around at the beginning of April. Because of that, I am going to do something I don't usually do and offer paid mentoring sessions for aspiring writers.

Hmm, it's been about 20 years since I read that, I think. Obviously it's due for a reread, I don't remember it well at this point!

Morkeleb was my first thought, though I confess that is in part because of Michael Whelan's incredible art for him.
Smaug of course for his speech about his attributes.
My weird pick is Mayland Long from _Tea with the Black Dragon_.
And my runner up is Hestaby from the Shadowrun-verse.
