I’m hoping #Bluesky will be in more robust health for this today. 🤞

It’s been a bit of a week, made brighter with pockets of immense kindness.

So for #KidsBooksFriday this week, I thought we could celebrate books that highlight the importance of kindness.

I have two.
Every Little Kindness by Marta Batolj. This wordless picture book shows the ripple effect from one act of kindness.

The Bicycle by Patricia McCormick & Mevan Babakar (Authors) and Yas Imamura (Illustrator). A true story of how a gift from a stranger made a difference to refugee's life.

This new book was delivered at the weekend, and it is absolutely lush. As someone who adores insects and nature I was in absolute heaven. Visually stunning, you just want to stare and stare at the pictures, choosing your favourite beetle or moth in the myriad of beautiful options. I adore it!

I have been sharing this book with schools this year and teachers have been really drawn to it.
It is a beautifully illustrated and powerful story, told in a way that is suitable for upper primary and lower secondary pupils without diminishing the hard-hitting reality of the holocaust.

I have supported this because I already use the old version and it is fab!
While the illustrations and marketing aims at children, the roleplay mechanics are for everyone, especially adults who want to try D&D but are put off by having too much to learn to get started. #ttrpg #dungeonsanddragons

Day 3 of #readingschoolsweek and it is Storytelling day!
While I don't have anyone to read to today, I am listening to stories through the BorrowBox app.
I get this free with my Dumfries and Galloway library card. They have lots of great audiobooks, digital books and magazines/newspapers.

I have used Little but Fierce with adults and children and it works great for both. It is a fabulous entry into D&D style roleplay without the mountains of things to learn. It is accessible, great fun to play and highly recommended, and this new version looks fab.

Twenty Modern-Day Proverbs

Fake news travels fast.
Post in haste, regret immediately.
Two’s company, three’s a crowdsourcing campaign.
AI for an eye, an untruth for a truth.
Beware of geeks bearing gifs.
Caesar’s Wi-Fi must be above suspicion.
A scrolling phone gathers no moss.
Share and share and like.
Don’t feed the troll that bites you.
Empty influencers make the most noise.
Every blog has its day.
Blessed are the content creators.
There’s a time and podcast for everything.
Do not judge clickbait by its cover.
A WhatsApp a day keeps your mother at bay.
All’s well that trends well.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day;
teach a man to phish and you pheed him for a lifetime.
Every cloud has a data centre.
Spam tomorrow and spam yesterday – and always spam today.
The end justifies the memes.

This looks very interesting. What good software packages exist? is a question I get asked a lot by smaller schools with limited budgets who are trying to manage and loan their book collections. I would love to hear from anyone who has used this system.

The Girl Who Lived to Tell her Story (12+) was incredibly powerful and moving, although I would recommend caution with some children, as some bits are very hard hitting and sad (though it is written for young people) . It is an impactful true story, about something that should not be forgotten x
