The number of people who don't know how things actually work, and don't care to, is truly disturbing to me. It's a big part of how we've gotten to where we are.
I do TV production engineering for money now, but recently retired. I still do occasional work for a couple of clients. I miss radio sometimes, though.
My gosh, an FIM-41 was a regular companion of mine when I worked for WLMD Radio in Laurel, MD in the early '80s.

Yeah, it seems that I hear more about how much money a candidate has raised than what their platform is or what they hope to do if elected.
Yeah. They said Ticketmaster overcharged customers by $1.72 per ticket, and the company isn't being broken up. So, still anti-competitive. And still overcharging. No win.
As a slum lord real estate magnate, Trump must be losing his shit over all the people living rent free in his head.
I’m down in the Mid-Atlantic states, and we’ve had a few days lately that required heat in the morning, AC in the mid-day, and heat again by bedtime. I just set the heat pump to “auto” and let the thermostat sort it out which to use.
There's also Patreon, which allows tiered access to content. You can make posts that are free for all to view as well as content that's only available to subscribers. (Substack also offers this capability).
So, platforms are out there, but the landscape has changed a lot over the past 20+ years.
It seems like a number of old-school bloggers have moved to Substack as a blogging platform, and I have to say that it's really evolved over the past few years to blend blogging, newsletters, streams, and a social media-like "feed" environment with the ability to follow favorite authors.
... and many will also do an automated WordPress install at the click of a button. ICDSoft (my host) offers WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and SiteBuilder installs at no additional cost. I prefer the self-hosted WordPress route, but I really actively dislike the WordPress.com platform.
Blogger still exists, as does Tumblr (though Tumblr is slowly turning into more of a social media platform as well. Squarespace is also still out there, though it's an expensive service. Most hosting companies also have some sort of site builder with a blogging component, ...
I think we should all start blogs again. Or online journals, even. That was a nice time. Just writing a few paragraphs about your day (don't forget to list the sad song you're listening to!) and maybe your friends will leave a comment. Then you go and read theirs and comment. It was fun.
WordPress have taken away many of the tools that made blogging fun, including one of the most interesting for creating and maintaining blog "networks" -- there's not place in the blog for the "blogroll" anymore.
Maybe I'll go find a modem and setup an old-fashioned BBS. Where's my copy of Opus?
I've been thinking, though, along the same lines as you -- maybe it's time to return to the times of personal blogs. "Social media" has become a toxic, antisocial wasteland. The blogosphere, though, has turned into a war zone of SEO tactics and monetization that is disheartening at best.
I'm still running a self-hosted WordPress site, hosted with the same company since 2002. The blog has changed numerous times over the years, and has had several offshoots come and go. Right now, it exists mostly as a portal to my YouTube channel and to host some photo galleries.
