I will never vote to allow this President to build the ballroom, with its chandeliers and gold that will forever change the nature of a place that has stood as a symbol of Presidents who believe in Democracy.

Congress, which is representative of the people, is the only entity that can authorize and appropriate funds to change the White House, build new structures, or demolish existing ones. The White House is held “in trust” for you, the American people.

Remember, every other major renovation to the White House has been approved by Congress.

The Court then issued an injunction, saying, ‘No, you can't do this, and you must stop construction immediately.’ If you don’t stop, this historic place will be changed forever.

In the end, the court rules against Trump’s attempt to give himself the powers of a King, who can do what he wants with American history, American lands, and American property.

As you read the opinion, you can see the court’s frustration with the Department of Justice as it keeps changing positions - Trump’s DOJ is always shifty.

Second, the Court found that, as he did with the tariffs, the President acted ultra vires - or basically, without any authority. In fact, the law, requires Congressional approval of changes to any of our historic places in D.C., including the White House and our important monuments.

First, the Court reviewed the Constitution and the Property Clause, which gives Congress complete authority over public lands. And yes, that was a case that came out of New Mexico - we do love our public lands.

It’s important to understand what this case just did and how that might affect Trump’s other attempts to slap his name and image on our national treasures, demolish our national heritage, and build statues and monuments to himself.

It’s almost midnight and we’re just getting out of votes. Not a single Republican joined us to reopen the government—even with a bipartisan Senate bill to fund TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard. Shame.

I just got out of a Rules Committee meeting on the government funding bill. Here’s what you should know:

Every single House Rules Republican voted to continue the shutdown instead of passing the Senate’s bipartisan TSA/FEMA funding bill.

Republicans said it themselves: this shutdown is on them.

You may be wondering why the House hasn’t passed the TSA funding bill sent over by the Senate this morning. The answer is simple: Republicans don’t listen to the American people.

Today, Senate Republicans finally caved and passed the Democratic bill to pay TSA, FEMA, and the Coast Guard without a blank check for a lawless ICE.
