I recall vividly Bill Nye coming to our college campus to do stand up and having to walk out after the third or fourth misogynistic joke he made.
Can't say I'm surprised

A lot of Indian train stations have a similar set up, and it really is a nominal fee, like a couple rupees (which would be like, a nickel). Though those might be privately run?
Eileen O'Neill Burke is a fascist. She puts her relationship with fascists above our rights and our laws; she is a fascist.
When I have the month-long pass I often will tap people on to the train, but I could easily imagine the threat of losing bathroom access making me less likely to do the same, even if the tap to use the bathroom is functionally free.
I'm imagining a world where there are bathrooms in our L stations where you have to tap Ventra to get in, and I'm torn because on one hand it seems like a compromise that could get an essential service, but also the people who most need it might not be able to get in.

Sometimes I still get her songs stuck in my head out of nowhere and I get sad
She's far and away the best on this list. It's not even particularly close.
Eh, it took her three years but at least she's voting against giving more weapons to Israel. Now if only we could get her to stop voting for transphobic "Internet Safety" bills written by Meta, or have an office that actually picks up the phone...
THIS is the dream. Instead of having a million chokepoints for our most racist neighbors to yell about how they don't want any more poor people in the neighborhood, we can just have new, dense housing.

If you own a house you are wealthier than anyone who is moving into any "luxury" apartments they are building on your block
That's good! It's genuinely a good thing for smaller cities to be investing in making good urban places. In a lot of ways it's easier to make a ton of progress in a short amount of time at that scale. I've never been to Peoria but I'll have to visit some time.
Kamala Harris was a former prosecutor and Attorney General, she had a Sheriff featured as a convention speaker. Every major police union endorsed Donald Trump.
I feel bad now for being snarky on your good faith post. I am unfortunately one of those jerks from Chicago who doesn't understand why anyone would choose to live anywhere else
Well see the thing about living in Peoria is that you live in Peoria.

I have met former tech workers who have been made homeless by this downtown. There will be many more such cases.
Haggling is my weakness! Though I find they often just...don't have any of the smaller cars around. But it's also been a couple years and the last couple times I used Turo

I have never once reserved a sedan and been given one. They always try to "upgrade" me to an SUV as though they're not charging me more for a worse vehicle

If you admit that the US has agency in international politics, you might end up having to criticize the US military and the people who decide to be a part of it
