The painting shown in the image is an oil-on-canvas work by the contemporary Chinese realist painter Liu Yuanshou. Born in Beijing in 1967, Yuanshou is known for his figurative realism, often depicting women in evocative, expressive poses accompanied by bold splashes of red fabric.

Cover of Curious Cats and Fantastical Felines, an orange cover with the title text and cat figures moving jumping around the words. Text reading A curious collection of cattish folklore, myth and superstitions is beside it, with a cat above and below.
Curious Cats and Fantastical Felines is finally here! 😻The first seeds for this one were planted way back in lockdown, so it feels extra special being able to finally share it with everyone - huge thanks to @batsfordbooks.bsky.social for making it a reality!

An excerpt of an interview with art historian and critic David Sylvester which i think feels relevant to the environment artists find themselves in the digital/social media/algorithmic content age

Next week there will be another existential boogeyman designed to discourage you from pursuing art. There will always be a mosquito in your ear trying to convince you your creativity has no value. Let this Sora situation be a lesson. Stop getting pushed around by scammers. Make art

I must blurt out how I love how this thread became a lexicon of rhyming language to uplift Bert and not to subvert, be curt nor hurt!

Illustration of a clearing in a dark forest with pools of water on the ground among the trees and vegetation. In the water is a reflection of a cityscape with skyscrapers in vibrant orange and yellow with a bright blue sky, contrasting with the murky blue-green colours of the woods. In the far distance an early sunrise can be made out through the trees.
In an ancient forest, shallow pools reflect not the trees above, but a luminous city of elsewhere.
My shortlisted entry for the Cheltenham Illustration awards. Inspired by the changing landscape, childhood (and adulthood) fantasy, reflections, exploration of strange places...

The joy is in the process, not the prompt 💜✍🏽
Dawn. More time to spend at the museum!
Not the exact purpose or reasoning behind the article, but in my mantra of 'finding inspiration in everything' reading this article and my eldest's current struggles with surface area, has given me the idea of a lesson plan to combine art with geometry. (Also combining tactile with visual learning).
i'm having terrible art block lately so i drew tiny covers of the books i've read so far this year for my journal, i highly recommend

Here’s your official invitation to start your first art journal. I loved the experience of making my first altered-book art journal and I’m starting a new one this week. If you’re interested in starting one yourself to reduce stress and process your emotions, just find a book and join me.

This image features a split design. On the left, there's a drawing of a pen with the text "What is a zine?" followed by an explanation: "Zines are DIY booklets made by collaging text and art together to share personal stories and interests, often underrepresented by mainstream media." On the right, there are nine zine covers displayed in a grid, including titles like "Stolen Sharpie Revolution," "Make a Zine," and "Moxie." Each cover has a distinct, colorful design.
The best thing about zines (pronounced "zeens") is that anyone can make them – they're easy, cheap, and can explore any topic or theme. Want to learn how to make your own? Check out these books to get connected to zine-making’s rich history and culture.

Two books about Major Archibald Willingham Butt, military advisor to Presidents Roosevelt and Taft who died on the Titanic. One is 'Archie' the third book in a series by George Behe - cover is a colourized photo of Archie in military uniform and the other is The Letters of Archie Butt which are his published letters - cover is a photo of Archie with Teddy Roosevelt.
Received my Archie book (third in a series by amazing Titanic researcher George Behe) in February. I didn't realize how massive it was!! Working on more research for my book as well. My goal is to at least have New York city sites mapped out with some illustrated by the end of the month.
