it is very funny how these people are so accustomed to essentially bullying democratic politicians that they meltdown when met with appropriate pushback.

in any case, the process to amend the virginia constitution has multiple stages where, at any point, an amendment can be defeated.

I would submit that a gerrymander by politicians saying fuck the voters and one by voters saying fuck the politicians are two wholly different animals

I like this because it articulates the conservative concept of freedom in a nutshell. You have the freedom to do x, except you don't, because I don't want you to. bsky.app/profile/atru...

you do not have to hand it to tucker carlson or marjorie taylor greene or alex jones or megyn kelly. they're all rats who see trump as a sinking ship and they're getting ready to jump in preparation for their next act. you do not have to fall for it.

Reactionary centrists and republicans spent years smearing, belittling, or dismissing anyone who properly described the Trumpism as a white supremacist project. bsky.app/profile/nbcn...

If the estimates were right, there were about 9 million people at No Kings rallies today.

That would mean this protest was THIRTY TIMES AS LARGE AS THE TEA PARTY PROTEST which we were told, over and over again, was a massively important sign that US politics had shifted dramatically to the right

The marches had no shortage of skeptics.
In Oxford, Miss,, Cass Rutledge, a first-year law student at the University of Mississippi, walked through the No Kings protest and around the town square on Saturday and questioned why people thought Mr. Trump was acting like a king.
"He is, you know, a duly elected president who won the popular vote and the electoral college in a landslide," Mr. Rutledge said.
"And so I'm a little bit confused on how he's acting differently than any other president."
He pointed to the stalemate in Congress over the SAVE America Act, the Republican-driven bill to tighten voter identification and registration rules, which Democrats have called an attempt to suppress turnout based on false claims of voting fraud. Mr. Rutledge said that Mr.
Trump was "going through the process" to try to get the legislation passed.

The NYT says today’s #NoKings protests had “no shortage of skeptics,” and then quoted exactly one of those skeptics: The chairman of the Ole Miss College Republicans (as of 2025.)

But of course, the Times doesn’t ID him as such. He’s just a Concerned Youth.

really can't be said enough that this case was decided by the same court that decided plessy v. ferguson. if they could have found a plausible rationale to limit birthright citizenship they would have done it. but there is none! the text is as clear as constitutional language can be.

It's not just news media. It's media in general. Entertainment. Trump wanted Black Americans gone. He wanted LGBT individuals gone. He wanted left-leaning creatives and journalists gone. He got that. And it's why ratings are in the toilet. Ask the Ellisons.

among other things this is a great example of a point others have made which is that when elite journalists talk to republicans they talk to fellow elites who are republican, not actual rank and file republican voters. this is a choice.

I have a complicated history with coercive polyamory, so I’ve been mostly steering clear of the whole Lindy West situation, but I can definitely tell you that I’m getting the vibe that some people are THRILLED to have an excuse to gang up on the fat lady and they aren’t especially subtle about it.

Amazing. But it seems that the US is *assuming* that Iran will emerge from the war vastly stronger. able to either dictate or seriously contest sovereignty over the strait, exact tolls, etc.

Medical experts say that if you develop a serious respiratory infection, you should see a doctor. A guy who snorts cocaine off toilet seats and cuts penises off dead raccoons says you should just drink bleach instead. For busy Americans, it can be hard to know who to trust.

I was late to watching Pluribus and loved it. I’m more than a little dismayed at how many people watched it and sided with the Joined. Like, the show was not subtle about exposing them and yet people love scolding a woman for not being more polite. 😐

Whoa whoa whoa. WSJ reports that Trump *personally* pushed the Justice Department to settle its antitrust case with Live Nation.

Several sources for my NYT column speculated this was the case. The Journal says it's a fact.

I’ve seen people assert that Val Kilmer would hate this, but… would he? We know he worked to develop an AI clone of his voice after his struggle with cancer. I don’t think you can just assert him as an anti-AI absolutist here. I broadly trust his family on this one.

AI is a lot more troubling to me when it’s used to violate likeness rights or used to “invent” content that remains overwhelmingly plagiarized. I’m less troubled when permissions are secured or it’s used as a filter over human created content. I’m guessing this project is more the latter.

I’ve read a few stories about this and I’m curious about exactly what the film makers have in mind. I’m guessing it’s not a CGI Val Kilmer, but I’d be equally surprised at full AI generation, too. I’m guessing it’s more of a deepfake? Clarity would be useful.

I’m not an anti-AI absolutist and this is the kind of “best case” project I’m fairly open minded to, BUT I am still kind of disturbed at how AI work gets reported on in personifying the product of AI. By all accounts, Val Kilmer is starring in nothing here and that should be stated plainly.
