One piece of good news I can share is that my novella More Than What Came Before is due to be published by The Book Guild, hopefully, by the end of July. π€π» #publishing #newbookrelease

Wow! My "little break" from social media turned into almost a year's hiatus. π Well, I'm back. Let's see how it goes.
Working on a new novel(la) and at least two characters will be neurodivergent. I realised how well it would click with the story.
As a sidenote, it's weird trying to do the "buy my book" dance in the middle of everything going on. It's like trying to sell ice cream during a neverending earthquake.

The Mermaid by Marc Berlin
Contemporary fiction / sociopolitical satire. A fun, sharp, and very timely story. #booksky
I don't know about anybody else but I feel flat. Not bad but most certainly not good either. I'm gonna disappear into the woods tomorrow and not come back till my camera is full of things to flood this place with next week. What does an artist do when things are tough? Make art! And so should you.
Ebook cover of Pay the Piper by Sarah Connell.

Pay the Piper by Sarah Connell.
A compelling retelling of the Pied Piper story. #booksky
My sound sensitivity feels like brain breeze. #autism
Anybody else find undercuts really soothing? The process, the trimming, the feel of the short hair after. I feel good for the rest of the day. βΊοΈ
I get strangely hurt when people tell me off for being too ethical. Sorry for having a healthy moral compass that won't roll over. π Is that ADHD or just being decent?
Damn. I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads-up.
Theatre: fantastic exercise for creative writers and neurodivergents. π
Helpful insight I heard recently about autism, ADHD, etc. They're neurological conditions that influence you throughout your life. That's key to setting their traits apart from those that "everyone experiences now and then" or suddenly appear after physical or psychological trauma. Food for thought.
Autism, while listed in the DSM as a disorder, is better explained as a neurotype comprised of a constellation of traits that diverge from what is currently considered typical. The defining traits are not disordered by nature but pose challenges when attempting to meet expectations of peers.
I was basically trained from birth to be polite, pleasant, and not complain. I was also obsessed with theatre and loved to step into new roles that weren't me. So my mask was next level. It slipped sometimes or came across a bit clunky, but I've had it this whole time. Paying the price now...
Thanks for the kind words. If I'd stuck to my stoic upbringing, I wouldn't have bothered. But I could feel myself getting worse and wanted to do it for myself. Get answers and the support I never had before. I'm glad I did it, despite people scoffing at and doubting me because of my heavy masking.
Our Bloomsbury book series examines those lingering revenants of the past & ghostly "lost futures" so central to the critical concepts of hauntology & spectrality.
Does this sound like your research? Then please, be in touch! π»

Got my autism diagnosis a few days ago at the age of 36. π₯³ Explains a lot, but apparently so does ADHD... π Soooo the mental health journey continues...

Each modern tale set in the US triggers strong emotions related to loss, obscurity, and ignorance. Meticulous writing with personality and purpose. A must-read. #booksky #bookrecommendation
Ebook cover of Chaos Magic by Jen Knox.
My first βββββ book review of 2025
Well-written modern fantasy with echoes of "Practical Magic" mixed in with intriguing themes, such as healing from domestic abuse and the anxiety it causes, magical vs rational thinking, and principles of the craft. #booksky
I'll check it out. Thank you. π
#authors what other platforms do you use? I left X ages ago, and I'm thinking of doing the same with Facebook and Insta (and KDP eventually. Just focusing on social media for now.) I'm already on TikTok and have dabbled with Pinterest and YouTube. Any suggestions or tips? #writingcommunity
Ebook cover of Ancient History by Liriel McMahon.
ββββ Epic fantasy novella exploring the necessity and dangers of historical knowledge.
It's intellectual, sweet, and easy to read. Slightly underdeveloped when it comes to some characters and plot points. #booksky #epicfantasy #lgbtqfantasy
Ebook cover of Long Shadows at Noon by Chris Kassel.
ββββ Short story collection
Ten thought-provoking and often surreal/fantastical narratives brimming with personality. A book to pour over.
Downsides: intelligent narration that sometimes becomes convoluted, difficult to follow. Also, too many formatting and proofreading errors to ignore. #booksky
Is there a word you use a lot when you're anxious or excited? Mine is "cool". It just falls out of my mouth on repeat. "Cool cool cool cool." Different intonations, too, until I force myself to shut up. #funnyhabits
Just Snickers. It's the same in singular and plural form.
When you're reading a published book and the formatting process skipped a few pages, leaving descriptions and dialogues as uniform walls of text. π€
Today I forgot how to spell "goo". I'm recovering from illness and brain fog, but I'm still very embarrassed. π
