A great album. Utterly bleak yet profoundly uplifting. Took me a while to get into it though. It all clicked into place at 5am one chilly morning in the late 80s, driving a van down the M6. I crossed Shap Fell just before sunrise and New Dawn Fades came on. It was perfect.

That I wanted to write songs. And then followed a series of questions. What kind of songs? How? What do you need to learn in order to do that? And the project gradually came to life by answering those questions.
Yes, for example when I started writing songs a few years ago.
I don't think you need to post it publicly but you do need to be able to articulate it clearly to yourself.
Went swimming this morning. When I went outside afterwards it was a bit cold. I thought to myself, 'It's a bit cold - wish I'd brought my woolly hat with me.' Then I realised that I HAD brought my woolly hat with me. So I put it on, immediately felt less cold. Made my day. It's the little things...
Finally started writing again. Songs. Got what sounds like a fairly moronic but spirited old school indie rock thing plus a delicate Spanish guitar-y thing (or would be if I could play it properly). No idea if either will go anywhere but it's good to be back in the saddle.
Jenny Stevens passed away this week. She's one of the most unique & unforgettable people Iโve ever known. Fiercely intelligent & independent, supremely charismatic & a brilliant singer, songwriter and musician. Rest in peace Jen. Iโll never get you out of my head. www.youtube.com/@missjennyst...
Yes! 'Lannoy Point' is an absolute belter, and a bit of a twist on the traditional Ride sound of old. Saw them play it at their gig in Cologne a few weeks back - probably the highlight of their set along with 'Leave Them All Behind', which was epic.
We have new songs coming out TOMORROW! ๐ฅณ
Canโt wait to share our first tracks in 2 years with you all ๐
In the last couple of years I've been catching up on artists that I never got round to seeing back in the day. Saw Ride play in Cologne a couple of weeks ago. They were brilliant - I'm sure they've improved with age. 'Leave Them All Behind' was absolutely epic.
Been reading 'A Manual for Cleaning Women' by Lucia Berlin. As always happens when I stumble across something really great, I thought to myself, 'Why didn't I know about this before?' Gritty, well-observed short stories filled with pathos and laconic humour, about life on the margins.
Decided to download ProTools again today. I'd underestimated just what a palaver it is. Caffeine intake through the roof...
