Sonic settled in at the base of the trunk, in the shade, with a deep sigh while he positioned himself to get a closer look at the bruise and where it stretched onto his inner thigh. It looked painful, but it didn’t look like it was the pain that was causing the odd fixation. Actually, to Shadow’s surprise, Sonic seemed almost… pleased by it. No, he was absolutely pleased by it, evident by how he suddenly yanked off one of his gloves and licked his bare thumb pad so he could slowly rub saliva in wet circles over that tender spot. He licked his thumb again, adding to the slick moisture in his fur so he could continue touching. It was clear that this was more than just a futile attempt to ‘cool’ the pain; he was enjoying it far too much for that. This was a more deviant. Shadow hadn’t really considered that Sonic might be that variety of masochist, but honestly he wasn’t surprised. He wished he was more confident in his ability to leave without compromising his stealth, he had a feeling it was going to get even weirder. But a small part of him also wanted to stay and watch.
The final fit of coughing brought him to his knees, but also left him feeling relieved as his ragged breathing began to normalize. His body trembled, and he swallowed several times trying to feel if his throat had been damaged. He gave himself a moment to gather his nerve before he shifted his focus downwards, to actually look at what he’d been coughing up. Scattered on the pavement below, among shards of broken glass and old chewing gum, were what looked like small, shiny chips of obsidian. He pinched a few between his fingers and brought them closer for examination. They were softer than stone, and uniform in a shape resembling sunflower seeds. The reflective, oily black color was broken with a thin, white line going down the middle. Crushing one between his thumb and finger, he was able to confirm that that was indeed what they were; flower seeds of some sort. Why would he be coughing up seeds? That made absolutely no sense.
