The Oracle of Bacon has four nines of availability. It runs on a single VM, uses SQLite, costs under $10/mo, and when I need to upgrade the kernel, I just type “sudo reboot.”

Want to learn how to build Postgres extensions in Rust? Our very own @piki.dev is doing a deep dive on pgrx at the Raleigh Triangle Postgres Users Group on March 24th, 5:30pm EDT.
Free food and great discussions. RSVP here: www.meetup.com/triangle-pos...
All the employees at @planetscale.com are sponsoring open source projects and their maintainers today. My choice: @pgrx.bsky.social, which lets us write PostgreSQL extensions using Rust.

PlanetScale Insights shows you how queries perform, now also find out what they do.
Get a plain-language summary for any query. Available now in the Insights dashboard.
Interested. You building it all, or combining off-the-shelf management and monitoring components?
Postgres databases now come with LLM-powered index recommendations.
Indexes are crucial for database performance, and these recommendations help ensure your queries are executing optimally.

I think people want AI to be useless, to consume huge amounts of water, etc. because that lets you find another reason for it to be bad that isn’t: it’s useful and that’s why it’s bad. The thing works and is getting better, millions have found use cases for it, and that is why it is bad.
PlanetScale now supports Postgres.

Birth rates and male mental health/loneliness are both legitimate societal issues that also unfortunately have been adopted as causes by the worst people imaginable
A photo of Gretchen Whitmer in the Oval Office with Trump, hiding her face behind a folder
I would have voted for her in a 2024 Dem primary but it’s safe to say that she is toast in a 2028 primary
YouGov just dropped a poll that includes intvs from yesterday/this am and just wow - Trump's job approval is 41%-54% (-13). Economist/YouGov yesterday was just 43%-51% (-8).
- Indies 30%-61% (-31)
- 18-29 30%-65%(-35)
- Hisp 35%-61% (-26)
Dude is melting down.

Talking to my database: "Which [post] got more likes?" Claude generates a query that includes a join between the Post table and the LikedPosts table, followed by a GROUP BY.
MCP = Model Context Protocol, which Anthropic invented for getting LLMs to talk to the outside world. Seems like a Tron reference?
Here's an example where Claude generated a query with both LEFT JOIN and GROUP BY in it. It's pretty good at writing SQL for all the things I've tried so far.
Just talking to my databases in plain English

asterisk because i think we look at that period of stability deeply red rose-colored glasses. when people think prosperity they don’t think “family of six sharing a 1200 sq ft home living largely on canned goods and hand me downs” but that was the reality
From Nov 7:
Allison Riggs won the election for NC Supreme Court. Changing the rules after the election to throw out the votes of tens of thousands of North Carolinians who followed all of the rules is a travesty.
/4 In my view, a movement that so transparently rejects the deal — so obviously adopts the policy “the only valid result is I win” — is not entitled to the protections of the votes-instead-of-sticks approach.
They should get the sticks.
How many of those 65,000 voters have moved (within the state or not) or died? Likely over a thousand — it’s been five months.
Those votes were perfectly legal at the time even if the voter is unreachable now.
🍿
But also, a very bad precedent to say Republicans can just re-run any election they lose.
North Carolina Democrats WILL fight this decision. But make no mistake, the statewide court of appeals bench has cowered to political pressure and corruption from their own party. The NCGOP and RNC are trying to steal an election and test the waters for future election denial.
