Welcoming Alisia to our team! Palante is very excited to welcome Alisia Rueda to our team as our first dedicated Operations Manager ever! Janine did the awesome work of proposing and beginning this position, and we knew we wanted to formalize and continue the role after they left earlier this year. After a long search during which we considered many excellent candidates, we were super happy to bring Alisia onto the team! Since day one she has demonstrated extraordinary dedication, organization and skill in wrangling the many facets of Palante's operations.

Managed IT Plans We formed Palante Tech to support community organizations who couldn't afford dedicated IT staff. Over time, we realized that our groups were falling further behind technologically because they only called on our IT expertise in moments of crisis. We realized it wasn't sufficient to only be the emergency technicians for groups without IT staff; we needed to offer oversight and strategic thinking so that groups could remain up-to-date.

Palante's response to COVID-19 Update on January 4, 2022: Due to the overwhelming surge of Covid-19 cases in NYC as a result of the Omicron variant, our tech support team will not be scheduling site visits before January 25, 2022. Should conditions be safe enough when we re-asses on January 25, we will resume scheduling with clients that need on-site work as long as they can meet our Covid-19 guidelines for worker safety. Until then, we will continue to provide remote support for all of our tech support clients.

In order to keep our workers safe as NYC weathers the latest Covid-19 surge, we have decided to pause scheduling in-person Tech Support site visits in NYC until Jan. 25. We'll continue to provide remote support to all our clients. Read more here:

Angel joined our tech support team back in July and dove right into their new role with enthusiasm, quickly demonstrating their hard-won help desk skills in supporting our tech support clients in NYC and beyond. Statement on Union Solidarity Palante stands in solidarity with non-profit employees unionizing across the country who are exercising their rights to collectively bargain for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. Monitoring Windows machines with Icinga2 Our infrastructure team member, Jamila, recently completed an upgrade of our entire monitoring infrastructure for Windows computers, which is a key part of how we keep our client systems running, up to date, and virus free. This upgrade was almost 7 years in the works! We’re so excited to finally be up to date, using a set up that involves Icinga2, an open source monitoring software, with specific Powershell scripts to make it work nicely with Windows. We wanted to share the details of our set up so that others can replicate or iterate on it for their own use.

Powershell monitoring of Azure backups using Icinga2 We maintain a wide variety of hardware and systems not only for our nonprofit clients, but also for ourselves. One challenge of that is connecting unique systems into one platform for monitoring.

When we figure out a technical problem, we want to share what we learned. Today we learned how to use @powershell to check on @Azure backups and report in to @icinga.
