On #PowerofAttorneyDay, we reflect on what the people we support tell us about LPAs.
Attorneys speak to us about:
👉not being recognised as decision maker
👉 not being included in best interests meetings
👉losing confidence to speak up for their loved one

The next stages of the SPR must incorporate people in the last year of life and include the option to complete advance care planning within the delivery of the NHS App.

This is a great example of what we do at Compassion in Dying - find practical solutions to help people navigate decisions when they're not being listened to.
We see lots of examples that show how policy is good but the gap between that and practice can be vast.
This is such an important point. We can't 'sort' dying just by investing in services (important though that is). We need to invest in community: its understanding, choices and agency.
We need to make sure what comes out of the 10 year plan for end of life care includes a new focus on listening to and foregrounding the wishes of people.
👀 Some thoughts from me 👇
New findings from @mariecurieuk.bsky.social @nuffieldtrust.bsky.social and Health Economics Unit make for an important read.
Current health spending for people in their last year of life is disproportionately distributed towards hospital care rather than primary and community care services.
I agree with this wholeheartedly. We need both.
