Something tells me the phrase "no homo" gets uttered a lot in this locker room.

Unfortunately with some of these lists, they literally say "no appeals". So one user is judge, jury and executioner for anyone they choose to put on that list. I just think its ironic that some of these folks are doing exactly what they criticized Elmo for. I'm sure i'll end up on a list now. :)

That's the point - there's no algorithm here. No one makes you consume anything. Its up to the user to find accounts to follow and consume. When you have gatekeepers with what could be arbitrary standards (I don't like football pics because it promotes the patriarchy!) you end up with censorship.

Its a double-edged sword. I'm already seeing cases of people creating lists accusing people of content theft, etc. I absolutely do agree that yes, its something people have to actively subscribe to and its their choice, but it can also get malicious... and there's little to no recourse.

Its kinda sad that a community that was supposedly built on openness and avoidance of censorship seems to already have a number of folks building lists that ... censor content.
