Nah. Any time you design any sort of merch for anyone, pretty much the only paperwork you sign is an IP release- you give them the rights to your art for a one time paycheck. Merch design is mostly a vanity side-hustle for me for this express reason. They're in the right, it's just groan-inducing.
If they keep cutting back on resources and funding for animation while perpetuating how bad it looks by whining on x, they can decide to replace all the animators with ai slop and the rhetoric for it being better than actual artists will already be there
On the topic of AI- I’ve noticed posts complaining about bad animation and constantly comparing shows that clearly have to be made quickly to still images of comics (invincible) are always super visible and boosted on twitter. I almost wonder if that’s intentional-

Tbh it’s kinda hard to tell-I did the ones with the spiral and triangle designs; and a lot of the text that they’ve retooled int most of the red and yellow stuff. From what I can tell most of the merch is safe! It’s one of those things where you’ll know other you see it.

Just for clarity’s sake-Danhausen is an anti-ai guy, historically he is amazing to artists, good guy. He doesn’t dictate what the merch department does with his stuff. Please don’t swing on my friend
I’m still happy for him, and I know that he has very little, if any control over his branding there, and the only reason my art is visible at all is because he specifically asked for it-which I’m very thankful for.

WWE is an evil mega corporation that uses ai all the time, and already has on my art multiple times, but the irony on that one kills. He's so excited about it though, I'm not gonna go whine abt it on twitter. I just hope nobody goes "Is that one of your drawings?" cuz I'll have to be like "Nope! AI"

I agree completely, but I will add that I think there's layers to the stupidity. Like that moron on twitter who said 40k is a perfect example of good vs evil because chaos is evil and imperium is good is a wall-eyed smooth brain apex dipshit. This guy just seems too dumb to understand what irony is.
Just to be clear tho, he is dumb and wrong. Warhammer rules, I love it. But it rules cuz it's literally an antithesis of idealized Star Trek future where everything sucks and everyone wants to kill everything all the time in hell and in space forever.

In his defense-I think a lot of ppl conflate irony with being disingenuous, and confuse satire with parody. Top-knot hipster "I only like this ironically" culture and MCU movies punctuating everything with a joke has made kind of dumb conservative WH/HD media illiterates very defensive apparently.
A ton of my favorite media is at least partially satire, whether it be political or just stuff like DBZ that derives charm from being so over the top, so to hear somebody viscerally react to it and get pissed was so strange. The franchise that created the term "Grimdark" is a little ironic?? Insane!
Had a really bizarre interaction in which I unintentionally made an acquaintance crash out when I insisted that WH40K is satirical--It wasn't weird that he disagreed, but the way he reacted was like I said it was stupid or making fun of him. I think a lot of people don't...know what satire means???
