If Bad Bunny can cover the history of Puerto Rico, colonialism, transatlantic slavery, hemispheric consciousness, as well as contemporary life and politics in under 14 minutes, you can do your 15- or 20-minute conference presentation with time to spare.
A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.
Auschwitz was at the end of a process. We must remember that it did not start from gas chambers.
This hatred gradually developed: from ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.
Auschwitz took time.

Katie Lam
Idi Amin in military uniform
Tory MP and "rising star" Katie Lam supports the mass deportation of families who came to the UK legally — a policy so unprecedented it has been compared with Idi Amin's expulsion of Asians.
But did you know Lam has drawn sartorial, as well as policy, inspiration from the brutal Ugandan dictator?
Men in balaclavas set fire to a mosque in East Sussex last night. It's only appearing on the BBC's local coverage, rather than its main national headlines, despite coming just a week after the (also under-reported) firebombing of an asylum hotel in London last week

For my entire life the political discourse has been dominated by two things:
1) people saying that immigration is a forbidden topic
2) the exact same people talking about immigration all the fucking time without ever once stopping
Comparing two cases, one in N. Ireland one in England.
A UVF (proscribed terror group in NI) gun runner caught with pistols, magazines & 200+ rounds of ammunition in 2022. He wasn't charged under terror offences and was given half the minumum sentence of 5 years for the guns charges. [1/n]
You know, if I were, say, an ambitious Labour Culture Sec minister I'd be reading the riot act that certain news orgs have been soft soaping Tommeh supporters and haven't prominently reported any of the racist abuse I've seen documented.
What on Earth is this? An "in depth" BBC article about free speech in the UK that only cites examples of right-wing/ 'anti-woke' speech being suppressed. How can you mention Lucy Connolly but completely ignore Palestine Action / Just Stop Oil? Gob-smacking. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
It's been at the back of my mind for a few days, so I'll just put it there and then go back to nicer thoughts, and posts. There is no need to talk about a Reichstag-like false flag . As I see it, Kirk is to MAGA what murdered S.A. Horst Wessel, turned into a "martyr" by Goebbels, was to the Nazis.
To paraphrase: "This is bad. If he had to resign for that, what happens if anybody gets hold of MY racist WhatsApps."
"…and Magda Goebbels made a great strudel.”
The Old Wellington Inn in Manchester, being jacked up on stilts to the new street level during redevelopment. It definitely looks like it's about to waddle out of the picture.
Despite easily being the most British fighting vehicle ever developed, the mock-Tudor AT-AT programme was sadly cancelled due to budgetary concerns
Funny how this keeps happening?
👀
Just for perspective, a few weeks ago roughly 100,000 turned up for the London Trans+ Pride march. By contrast fewer than 3,000 ACROSS THE WHOLE COUNTRY, have turned up to anti-asylum "protests". Yet we are meant to take the latter as "the voice of the people" and the former as "the minority".
Mo Salah is asking the right questions
Twenty years ago today, Jean Charles de Menezes was assassinated at Stockwell station. Head of the Met Police, Ian Blair, was made a Lord. Cressida Dick, who led the operation, was promoted to Blair's position.
I left X months ago. At some point, surely, a threshold is passed where it is no longer appropriate for Governments to continue to have a presence on that platform. If its AI going full-on Nazi is not that threshold, what is? www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...
It would be nice to, among other things, get an answer from the UK government about why they still feel comfortable using this as one of their primary communication channels

Manchester Citg Pep Guardiola expressing incomprehension.
Time to ask the periodic question again. So, what about those 115/129/130 charges faced by Manchester City? Any news?
A verdict was said to be coming "next month" - in February.
Mail headline: the school where NONE of the pupils speak English as first language
If you read down this Mail article long enough, you get to this grudging admission:
"76% of pupils at Kobi Nazrul are meeting 'expected standards' in reading, writing and maths.
That compares with a local average of 71 per cent and an average of 61 per cent in England."

Have written up some of my thoughts about the increasingly sinister use of 'non-UK born' and 'white British' in the British press. The obsession with 'white British' citizens over other British citizens harms all of us and needs to be called out.

Don’t send me an unsolicited picture of your peewee cocktapus unless you want me to…

Happy Father’s Day Daddy.
He refers to the pub as the Red Lion in that substack (there are quite a few in the area - but not many that meet the description around quiet country roads, etc).
