A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility from Dublin, Ireland.

Front of Arnotts Department Store, located on Henry St in Dublin. Various flags adorn the front of the store, just above the front entrance overhang, including the LGBTQIA+ flag. To the left of the building's facade, looking down the path, is the Spire of Dublin.

A lot of people are reasonably very concerned that a well-liked comedian might be hurt by angry online comments, but are unconcerned that already piled-on and sometimes destitute immigrants might be hurt by false and alarmist online comments because they see the former as a person but not the latter

With everything happening in the US right now, how safe are scientific conferences for foreign participants in the US? I think this is something we have to discuss as a scientific community. I am hesitating to register for US meetings due to the unpredictable situation. Others who feel the same?

Don’t wait out four hard years: speak truth to power The importance of diversity in science is an unshakeable reality that the scientific community must stand by.

"The idea that scientists can keep... [incorporating] DEI...while adjusting terms to fit the demands of bigoted autocrats bent on hobbling science is to whistle loudly past a graveyard of avoidable error, continued financial cuts and censorship." www.nature.com/articles/d41...

I remember having to work with NOAA/NCEP forecasts some years ago: they were open access even though ECMWF winds were a bit better (but badly underestimated storms). Now that ECMWF winds are getting even better they are also becoming open access!! Very proud to be European.

STRESS KILLS.

60% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, struggling every day to keep their families going.

The result: working class people die 7 years earlier than the rich.

We need an economy that works for all, not just the few.

Super excited that this amazing book is finally available for preorder. It was written by over 50 Indigenous Peoples from around the world and contains stories, poetry, and critical thought pieces on how TEK is used and extracted from our communities and what folks are doing to protect it.

Harvard alum here to say that what happens to Univ of Maine and other public universities like it is way more important than anything financial that is happening to Columbia right now because Columbia can withstand the financial storm. and our public unis serve people Columbia wouldn’t sniff at.

The media can (and should) reject the Right's deceptive frame. This is not about "references to diversity, equity, and inclusion."

It is a neosegregationist attempt to erase everyone but white males from the nation's history.

How does the atmosphere affect ocean weather? A new Rochester study upends previous assumptions about how surface winds and ocean weather patterns interact.

New research reveals the surprising ways atmospheric winds influence ocean eddies, shaping the ocean’s weather patterns in more complex ways than previously believed.
