You know what casting everyone got really excited about? The live-action Cowboy Bebop
You know what sucked? The live-action Cowboy Bebop
As the World's Leading Gundam Expert (tm) my official opinion is... wait and see.
You know what else should have sucked pig ass by every conceivable metric? The live-action One Piece.
You know what ruled? The live-action One Piece.
MediaOCD has revealed the titles it is adding to the Discotek Deep Dives project this month, including Reborn!, several Urusei Yatsura movies, and more.
[Review] From the snow-shrouded mountains to the desert of Western America, from samurai and shinobi to cowboys and Indians, Rintaro’s vision for this classic tale of a half-Ainu boy and a lost pirate treasure is epic.
The Astro Boy bit still lands exactly as intended
You don't even know how hard Tezuka's Cleopatra hits with a late night convention crowd
Yeah, honestly, unless you want the dub, the JP UHD or BD is probably the better buy. The UHD is fairly barebones packaging-wise, but it at least has a bunch of trailers included. I do kind of like CR's sub font better than Bandai Visual's too but the BV one isn't outright bad by any means.
Now, with the subs enabled on the JP UHD vs the US UHD. What's wild is that they still accounted for positioning the subs above the caption so it didn't overlap but somehow did nothing about the missing caption.
That I know of, there aren't any major dialogue revisions, but one thing that was changed between the theatrical/JP streaming version and the home video version was added captions in parts of the film. For example, at 1:18:24, we see this shot. In the JP stream, no caption. On home video, captions.
So I took a look at CR's SEED Freedom UHD and along with the inconsistent specs and lame menu that @marcfbr.bsky.social mentioned and @soundout12.bsky.social highlighted (www.youtube.com/watch?v=nE2h...), the subs appear to be based on the theatrical script and not the updated one from the JP UHD.

It's been a few weeks since street date so I guess I can post about this now but I helped out on the new Voltes V Blu-ray from Discotek
Very thankful for the opportunity and hope our paths may cross again someday
Days like today, where we put up a bunch of discs that we did ages ago for sale, really is such a thrill to watch. Every order that comes in, you get to see someone’s tastes, and what gets them excited.
We get to sell joy to people. A very specific, nerdy joy. How cool is that?

So, we have some unfortunate news to bring you all.
Zaki is at it again and Tai Chi Chaser's is back up on Tubi. Complete with the bootleg dub.
No, I'm not joking:

This season hasn't missed a beat (something I can't say about the Med School season. It was fine, but never really did it for me so retconning it was a-ok with me) and I'm happy to see all the cancel/renew predictions saying that it's likely a shoe-in for renewal. Can't wait for more.
Haven't posted about it week to week but now that the season is over, the new season of #Scrubs has been a lot of fun. With the exception of Star Trek shows, there's so very little I bother to make time for on TV anymore but Scrubs was always going to be appointment TV when it came back.
Early HDTV is so fucked up man. What do you mean it used 4 interlaced fields. What the fuck resolution is 1035i. It was analogue? I'm fucking scared.
And of course, the JP UHD had the Atmos track as well as both 5.1 and 2.0 so an argument could be made that the US UHD should have all 3 JP tracks plus the dub.
The question is, which tracks does it actually have? Is the slip right or the menu?
Gundam Seed Freedom UHD from CR...
Slipcover says it has these tracks... EN 5.1, JP 5.1.2 (Atmos), JP 2.0
Menu says these tracks... EN 5.1, JP 5.1.2 (Atmos), JP 5.1
Not a 'big' deal, but it feels like the last few years they've been quite confused on their audio specs in general.
