We are appalled by what has happened in Minnesota in recent weeks, where expanded federal immigration enforcement has escalated into deadly violence. ICE and CBP agents have destabilized and terrorized immigrant communities, traumatized children and families, and attacked bystanders documenting abuse. Amid peaceful protests, agents shot and killed Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti. While these tragedies cannot be undone, Congress can act to ensure they don’t happen again.

“Sen. Hassan (D-NH) and Sen. Young (R-IN) should be applauded for their bipartisan leadership in introducing the Stronger Start for Working Families Act. This legislation will give millions of families working in low to moderate wage jobs a much needed $375 increase to their Child Tax Credit (CTC),” said RESULTS Executive Director Joanne Carter. “It is an important reminder that Congress can work together across party lines to promote the financial well-being of families.”

“Passing this harmful reconciliation bill is a watershed moment. The social compact between communities and their government is in tatters. It marks the end of any remaining trust that Congress enacts the will of the people. This moment must mark the beginning of accountability.

We will not forget, and we will not back down from our vision of a future beyond poverty and oppression.”

– Joanne Carter, RESULTS Executive Director
