The phrase "Lives worth living" in teal vinyl on the shroud on top of Noor's powerchair wheel
Noor wearing a sweatshirt that says "Disability Justice Is" followed by various social justice topics. It is white text on a black background. Image is a close up, with nature in the background.
Further out shot of Noor in the same outfit in his power chair, laughing and leaning forward.
Grateful today for the freedoms I have from my disabled ancestors' activism. My right to exist - at home, work, and school - is their legacy.
Disabled lives are worth living. Disabled lives are worth protecting. The work continues.
Thanks to @disabilitylab.bsky.social for the sweatshirt!
Reminder:
If Visa and Mastercard are allowed to limit what games you buy, there's nothing stopping them from limiting what food you buy, where you buy your clothes, what services you're allowed to pay for, and more.
This is a fight for your freedom to spend your money on your terms. Keep calling!
Disabled people are 11 times more likely to die during labor/in the postpartum period than non-disabled people. Better education and smashing ableism is how we get out of this horrible stat.
For the past year, I’ve been looking into the topic of disability and pregnancy for @motherjones.com 🧵
I'm applying for some more disability services. I put onto the application prefer email. I put I'm an AAC user. I put my relay number as well as my cell (which was required).
I had messages left on my cell phone telling me that if they can't get in contact with me in <x> days they'll close my case.
It's hard to explain to people outside this fight that Texas is currently trying to ban kids from using public libraries... but they are; it's passed out of committee, and it's going to a floor vote.
🚨If you know ANYONE in Texas it's time for them to call their reps and demand NO ON HB3225🚨
Ableism teaches us to abandon each other.
Racism will disable you.
Transphobia will disable you.
Long COVID will disable you.
Genocide will disable you.
Climate change will disable you.
Do not obey when told to abandon the vulnerable.
Resistance & communities must be rooted in disability justice.

Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants
the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever
they aren’t going into universities’ endowments
they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research
Max the Cockapoo! Smiling and wagging his tail! Candidate for cutest dog. Also loves you.

Pitying someone is telling them you’re sad that they’re happening. It’s not the same as learning about them, asking what they need, asking them what they’re up against.
The opposite of pity is connection & community. We need each other, now more than ever.
Pity is a wedge, not a bridge. When you say “at least I’m not like them” it’s easy to justify doing stuff that tries to stop us existing.
It’s meant to make you forget that we’re here - that we can hear you. That we have needs and lives that are worth living.
Eugenics is bad is praxis.
Raising money to get a new computer so I can do more work. I have a ~9-year-old laptop that sucks and is barely usable

BREAKING: The House passed a bill that limits judges' ability to block the Trump administration's unconstitutional actions nationwide.
This bill is a threat to the rule of law and endangers all of our rights — the Senate must reject it.

The New York Times is the first to put out comprehensive estimates on the cost of a year without U.S.A.I.D. and they’re higher than I thought:
- 1.65 million deaths from AIDS
- 500,000 from lack of vaccines
- 550,000 from lack of food aid
- 290,000 from malaria
- 310,000 from TB

Dear Congress,
Libraries are the place we all belong. The place where Mister Rogers’ neighbors collide at the library to help one another. We come together to embrace library joy. What good is the world without libraries and museums? ❤️🩹
Call, email Congress! Help libraries & museums! We need you 💛

A positive case of measles has been identified in Maryland, public health officials said Sunday.
The highly contagious virus was detected in a Howard County resident who recently traveled internationally.

I’m so sorry, I know this isn’t the point of this thread but thank you, nobody told me this - you just solved why refrigerated leftovers basically always make me sick
If what you can do is smaller scale: that counts.
Not crossing a picket line ✅
Joining an antiracist book club ✅
Writing an op-ed for your local paper about a social issue you care about ✅
In mass, these things add up.
You don’t have to have every answer. Doing what you can is critical.
We need fuckloads of people doing okay at and trying to getting better at fighting facism. We need every person we can get to be the bystanders intervening.
Break the surface tension. This isn’t normal. Say so. Act like it.
