I did review the evidence a few years ago. From memory: at best you got ~10cm extra passing space (tho still regularly below 1.5m anyway), at worst you got less passing space. But generally other factors were more important such as the width of the road, amount of other vehicles, speed limit etc

It's ok you can block both - park the car with a wheel width in the cycle lane so that becomes unusable due to risk of dooring, the rest of the car then obstructs the pavement ๐
Looks like that cycle lane only goes in the opposite direction anyway?

The walking/ cycling scores are mostly theoretical because they're restricted by not having consistent data around infrastructure. On the .gov.uk users version you can see the routes they're using & some do send you walking down 60mph roads with no pavements.
Haha the hire bike equivalent of Headbolt Lane train station
Yeah this happens outside my house. It's of no consequence whatsoever & I find the pavement convenient for walking on.
So the roads are going too, obviously? And the threat of strangers only comes from those walking, not those driving???
The cars parked in the cycle lane despite the still massive main carriageway?
I love cycling in traffic so congested it's actually stationary, much safer than stop start but moving

Drawing of a busy terraced street has pavement-parked cars down both sides. A long cane user is trying to get down the left pavement. A driver in a pavement-parked SUV on double yellow lines is shouting "I need to park here! You can squeeze through or go on the road!" A powerchair user is driving down the road, while an adult and child on a side-by-side tandem are cycling towards us. A driver coming up the road is shouting "Get off the road! You'll get yourselves killed!" A child on a small bike is riding down the right hand pavement, while a driver in a pavement-parked van shouts "Get off the pavement! You're a danger to pedestrians!"
It's great to see action starting against dangerous pavement parking. Now we need: A clear definition of what "unreasonable obstruction" means; Effective ways to enforce against obstructive and dangerous parking; Enforcement against pavements being broken by heavy vehicles.

I don't think the pub was so nice & it apparently closed because itdidn't make enough money to pay its rent, but nice idea!

Ah I thought it was phase 1, cheers
Crewe was already approved in phase 1 wasn't it? Just got imo accidentally cancelled. What happens to the Welsh rebate tho? Cos they didn't get compensatory money like Scotland did, because of connections from N Wales at Crewe...
I seem to remember something about HS2 running 16 carriage trains but if it switched to standard tracks to continue Birmingham to Manchester, Piccadilly can only fit the current 12 carriages so it would have to be half an HS2 train. And HS2 can't tilt so slower if on the existing line
Shipping containers are regularly stored on the motorway. Most people don't see a problem with this: they're waiting to be transported, where else are they meant to go; nobody uses the motorway anyway
Most new roads built won't be connected to any other roads for a minimum of 5 years after construction
The bridge was washed away in a flood 7 years ago, the diversion doubles your trip. Funds to repair the bridge have not yet been identified.
Some motorways will be wide tarmac, some will be mud, some will have freight trains using them. To find out you'll have to find someone with local knowledge & ask.
I couldn't stand it, I spent the whole book going but neglect is abuse! And the whole village knew & did nothing & then predictably he experienced trauma as an adult as a result
Adding to this commentary that between ebikes (6+ yrs & 17,000K+ on mine) & the bike & roll network in Victoria, life has indeed changed for the better & become much more efficient. Recently, whizzing to & around shopping areas --- while motorists drove around parking lots looking for spaces.
Eek. Good to see they're not absolutely fine because of the magic paint forcefield
Most amusingly - the tree doesn't actually fit ๐คฃ
Oh yeah probably, the local MP (cross border constituency) has been championing that since some MPs back
The nearest new cycle lanes to that area are in Farnworth 8km away
There have been no new cycle lanes in that area (which may be part of the problem)
