On Friday, Epic laid off more than a thousand people. The SECOND time in two years they’ve reduced their workforce by 20%. Many were my friends and people who’d put in more than a decade of work for Epic. While those at the top will continue to profit.

when you really think about it, the true value of video games is in laying off thousands of the people who make them at regular intervals in order to increase shareholder value 🥰
“and in being the industry's vanguard we have taken a lot of bullets in a battle which is only in the early days of paying off for ourselves and all developers.”
An insulting piece of writing. Millions wasted on ego stroking lawsuits, and he has the gall to say this.

Unfortunately I was one of the 1000 folks let go of by Epic Games this morning. As always I stand in solidarity with the workers and hope we all can land on our feet.
Remember, this is not a reflection on you, your work, or your value as a person. Reach out if you want to chat or have job for me!
Ugh. I’m sorry. We spun up specifically after I (Dylan) got hit with the first round in 2023. Just remember that what you’re feeling today absolutely is t the full scope of what you’ll feel in the coming days. Be kind to yourself.

This is early days, and it sounds like it'll need a lot of supporters to make the math work, but it's the kind of thing we need a lot more of.

Thanks for the boost!

It still seems small, but I like the premise. I think it's a much better approach that gives power to the people to decide where the money goes, and not the studios who let go of people when they prioritize profits over people

Since we’re going to be handing out physical badges I’m very hopeful to get it on those as well
Video Games. Let’s fund them.

Who has two thumbs and forgot to put the analytics script into the new webpage? This guy. Got all excited to check site visits and analytics since I dropped the new front page and pushed it out over socials...nope
While we appreciate the ask, we’re not in need of any further art at the moment. However, we will keep you in mind for future collaborations.
That's all for now. Remember, we're still in the very early stages and are WIDE open to conversations with literally anyone about any of this. Email us directly at info@fairplaycollective.org or DM me right here!

LOGO!
- We've reached out to @whitefoxdesigns.net to commission our logo. You might remember we were going with the artist Lur Noise originally. We decided that while her art is really awesome, it didn't fit exactly what we were looking for.

Discord!
- We've got a public one now. I posted here already for this, but we can all use reminders. At the moment its just a mishmash of devs and gamers and great ideas. More structure is coming, but hop in and join the discussions.

January 29, 2026 at 2:03 PM I'm going to be a little vulnerable really quickly, so bear with me. I feel stuck at the moment with The Fair Play Collective and I really have since the new year. I was inspired when I first announced what we were working towards. Really. So many people reached out and wanted to offer words of encouragement, valid criticisms, excitement for a model they'd been hoping for for years. It felt good, and it was easy to just cruise forward on the idea. We bought the LLC, I had a blast putting the website together. It was invigorating to write up the manifesto and goals. It was fun to share them with everyone and feel the momentum. But things have slowed down. Which in and of itself is fine. I've said from the start that if this takes a year to get to the RIGHT place to give developers what they should have, that's fine. Now we're approaching where the rubber meets the road. Or should be. It's time to "do the thing," and it's kind of scary.
Chicken and egg. How do we grab consumer interest to start paying $5/mo for a project that we haven't started paying for to develop? How do we start paying for a project to develop without consumer interest that pays $5/mo? On top of that, IS another subscription model the right one? There sure are a lot. Is there fatigue there? Alright, if you're all still here reading, I appreciate it. I keep waking up at night and having legitimate anxiety about these things. So what does it all mean? Honestly, not a lot. I think in going to take a TINY step back from it all and give it a good 10,000 foot look. That's 3,048 meters for those not being domestically terrorized by your government. I just want to give it some good thinking. That thinking might result in a change to the model. It might result in nothing different at all. However, plowing ahead with the original idea in an effort to simply maintain momentum, I don't think, is the right move. Thanks all.
Not quite indie specifically related, but we’re a big fan of this space.
We're launching a website.
