FREE MECHANICS Modeling Workshop at Arizona State University: June 2 to 20. (Take all or part. Re-take to deepen your practice.) RESERVE A SEAT at: https://physics.asu.edu/node/2349 . See: modeling.asu.edu [Share with high school & TYC teachers of all sciences and math.] PEER LEADERS: Jeff Steinert, Javier Melendez * Modeling Instruction teaches students to think, to be autonomous life-long learners. It infuses 21st century workplace skills into physics content. * Even PhDs in physics laud it, for its effective pedagogy. * Great background for all other sciences.

PHS 530/PHY 480, Modeling Instruction in mechanics, is a Methods of Physics Teaching course that thoroughly addresses most aspects of high school and TYC physics teaching, including integration of effective teaching methods with course content. The course incorporates up-to-date results of physics education research, best curriculum materials, use of technology, and experience in collaborative learning and guidance. It's harmonious with AZ science standards. 3-D learning. QUESTIONS? jane.jackson@asu.edu

I've noticed that they 'get' uniform electric fields much easier when they've seen this...

When you make up a test near Christmas, the big guy keeps an eye on you!
(Yup, we do Christmas. We’re an Episcopal college prep school.)

Ziplock bags of white chemicals.

Ziplock bags of white chemicals.

Sketchy white powder lab!
Given the moles in each bag and a list of compounds, match the compound to the bag. No instructions given. It’s a good light bulb lab for students just learning the mole. #iteachchem

Student holding plush mole.

My favorite thing today was making the kids hold the mole when it was their turn to speak.

THIS! I find it a very humanizing situation. I "doctor" my family photos often just to have everyone looking at the camera at the same time. It has nothing to do with glamour.

Hope it goes well!

Glad you're doing ok! I one-upped you and had a 12cm liver tumor removed this summer. No cancer and livers regrow!! I'm feeling quite lucky.

Second year I've done this activity in my #iteachphysics class. Each group gets a target paper and an assigned drop height. They drop a marker 5 times onto the target and discuss accuracy vs precision. Each group gets 5 📌 to add to this target with all the groups' data. 🎢🧪
