@ualbanydaes.bsky.social What a beautiful day for a field trip at Thacher Park for our Geology & Oceanography classes! And we even had someone find part of a trilobite fossil! #geologyrocks #thacherpark
Adirondack Explorer's Zach Matson met us at Black Pond this summer to spend the day w/ a team of #UAlbany researchers who are collecting & analyzing lake mud in the ADKs.
Each meter of sediment represents about 1,000 years of lake history.

A fully-funded postdoctoral scientist position is available in the research group of Distinguished Prof. Mathias Vuille. The position is open to scientists with interest & experience in: (1) South American (paleo-)climate, (2) Andean glacier-climate interactions, or 3) regional climate modeling.
Today, students in my @ualbanydaes.bsky.social data viz class present their final projects, which wouldn't be possible without the folks at @unidata.bsky.social. The consequences of this administration's attacks on science and education just keep on hitting closer and closer to home.
2nd Call: @justinminder.bsky.social and I are seeking a postdoc to perform research on the characteristics and predictability of rainfall events over the Catskill mountains that impact the NYC water supply. Application deadline is this Friday 5/9. www.atmos.albany.edu/facstaff/tan...
Fun fact: Dr. Vuille is the fourth Distinguished Professor in DAES history (Bernie Vonnegut, Lance Bosart, and Aiguo Dai are the others), which is a recognition by the SUNY system of the outstanding research that is conducted within our department.
Dr. Vuille's appointment is in recognition of his long and substantial record of accomplishments, as well as his international reputation in paleoclimate research and climate analysis.
We are thrilled to announce that Prof. Mathias Vuille has been named a SUNY Distinguished Professor, an honor conferred upon faculty having achieved international prominence & a distinguished reputation within their chosen field through significant contributions to research and scholarship.
