Expansion fees are unlikely to be paid in one lump sum in a calendar year, but it's definitely committed cash that will be distributed to the league and its investors in some way!
Estimated NWSL Revenue in 2025 & 2026 chart projecting just over 1 billion dollars in revenue and expansion fees.
Is it too crazy to suggest that NWSL could get $1 billion in revenue + expansion fees in 2025 and 2026?
It's also time for every Kansas City, Houston, and Chicago fans favorite game when there's an expansion announcement: guessing where we go if we're split into conferences.
I should add that it’s NWSL’s obligation since the beginning. This doesn’t include the USSF, Canada Soccer, and FMF payments for its players during the early years.
COLUMBUS YOU WILL *NOT* GET IZZY RODRIGUEZ WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF DE-BUCKYING HER AND THIS IS A VERY DELICATE PROCESS THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
All-time NWSL Salary Cap chart. Maximum Cap Spend since 2013: $208,318,500. NWSL Columbus Expansion Fee: $205,000,000. Note: Max spend not mandated. 2025 and 2026 includes mandated revenue-sharing supplements. Does not include future HIP rule payments.
Columbus' NWSL Expansion Fee pays for every NWSL player's salary every year since the beginning of NWSL.
For perspective (in fairness): NBA expansion fees are anticipated to be somewhere in the $7 billion-$10 billion range.
I *HATE* it when cities devalue themselves and, by extension, the people who reside there with deals like this. Tax incentives are fine, but the City has to couple them with expectations or metrics that produce something viable in return, otherwise it's just a free handout.
HSG probably won't have to pay sales tax on construction materials, and I'm *very* curious on their property tax deal. I'm thinking they may pay little/nothing in property taxes over the life of the training facility.
Ahh, that's where the remaining cash from the $50,000,000 government outlay is going after building the training facility and locker room: paying down expansion fees.
Rose Lavelle now has two NWSL locations agonizingly close to Cincinnati without actually being Cincinnati.
The People wanna know: Gold Star or Executive?
I guess it’s Concacaf’s call and not the USSF. Still…
Feeling good about our chances against the El Salvador WNT, guys.
They're putting the biggest game of the year for the USWNT in a 7,000 seat stadium?
Big news, Kansas City! The #kcstreetcar Riverfront Extension officially opens for passenger service on Monday, May 18 & you’re invited to celebrate with us at 11 a.m. on the riverfront! More details soon.
15.85 Acres of Industrial Land Offered at $1,800,000 in Groveport, OH 43125
Hey look, private land in the Columbus area 20 minutes from downtown that can easily fit a practice facility. Asking $2.61/square foot!
"Well, it's in a regulatory floodplain."
So is McCoy Park.
Columbus city council passed an amendment that would help bring the NWSL to the city, but it’s costing residents a promised, and much-needed park.
The city has promised to find a replacement, but was this the best way to bring the NWSL to the city?
We’re expecting an announcement this afternoon 👀
Legend, and glad to see she has a UEFA A coaching license. In interviews she always struck me as one of the most intellectual and perceptive students of the game. I hope she puts her incredible talents and acumen into coaching.
And I bring it up again: why do the Haslam's need $50,000,000 in City and County funds for a practice facility if it cost the Longs just $18,000,000 in 2022 to build a practice facility? There's some accommodation for construction cost inflation, but almost triple the cost?
There's a real chance there will be potential fans who will *never* attend a match if the Council renegs on their hastily crafted promises. That hurts your asset! In a City that demands civic responsibility of their owners (re: Precourt battle), why push through a bad optics plan like this?
The Columbus Council and NWSL leaders fail to see how this impacts their fan base. We know the political values of NWSL fans are defined by a strong alignment with conscious consumerism and inclusivity.
You start on the wrong foot by bulldozing a park with plans for accessible youth sports.
Let's go!

It would have been helpful if there was a city in the satellite image of a city.
I've been actively poring over a map for the first one so I'm glad I got it perfect. Going there next month.

I want to know why a facility that cost $18m in 2022 in Kansas City costs $50m in Ohio.
On public property.
"Ope we must give this public land planned for a miracle league field to a billionaire." is not the corner you want to paint yourself in.
