So I'm about a 3rd of the way through Winds of Radiance now. And I'm surprised at the commentary he has introduced about gender rolls it's quite interesting to see how his books reinforce but also challenge aspects of our real world.

My posts might stop for a month or 2. I need to deal with some personal hardships that kinda came all at once. Not going to have much time to read let alone post about it for a bit.

January Reading Wrapp Up
Little slower month with some chunky fantasy, though the manga definitely makes it look better.๐Ÿ˜…

The City We Became
By N. K. Jemisin
โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†
Such a good story with multiveral magics and a bit of that every story you've heard is real energy you find in contemporary fantasy couldn't help but imagine this story in the style of the spider verse with that cover art #booksky #bookreview #nkjemisin

I am only trying to understand what he is communicating through the lens of what I know of his life, his work, and the community that I've learned of over the years, of watching many former Mormons break down the faith with a critical eye. 8/8

But I wanted to get the thoughts I've had brewing on this out somewhere where others can interact. this is my first step into Brandon sandersons work so there is probably more to discuss. I currently have a narrow view of this. Also I don't mean to phycoanalize Sanderson. 7/8

He Wants the best for "heretics", and even then, when you move to dolinar and his brother, you can see the concerns of religious phycosis and embracing the other extreme of faith I may add to this as I read more I'm not through the entirely of the way of kings so no spoiler on the ending 6/8

But not outlawed directly in the text I do believe that he believes the core of his faith based on the way shallan and jasnah are framed threw out the story though it does show he does not demonize or think less of questioning or outright denounceing minds. the way he writes seems to show that 5/8

Internal conflicts along with the comments that even if something isn't outlawed dosent mean it can't be frowned upon mirroring in his works the sense of control the curch places on its members and the sense of social backlash that can be had for breaking unspoken social rule implied by the group4/8

The discourse that builds from that can be seen when the ardents talk about religion with our MCs, and I wonder if by having one of the ardent want to flee his post and court shallan, he is inserting his own conflicts on the topic as that want to move the mormanism morally has to have come with 3/8

Relationship To the morman Faith, I've watched many videos of former Mormons and their experiences with the church, and I noticed many of the lines in the way of kings mirror the discourse in that community I know he has been quoted as hoping to move the Mormon church in a more positive direction2/8

Katabasis by R. F. Kuang
โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†โ˜†
I'm so glad I picked this up when I did. R. F. Kuang has officially earned a must buy status for me. This book was amazingly written, exploration of death and the meaning of existence, wrapped in an amazing story. #booksky #bookreview #bookcommunity #fantasy #RFKuang

December Reading Wrapp up-
It was a slower month with all the festivities, but I'm glad to say I got a fue novellas in and 1 novel. If I stick with Brandon, we may see some drops in book count in 2026 with those bricks.
