I think about this a lot because I have made a point of teaching my elementary students about wealth inequality. It's so obscene that cognitively it's up there with, like, really understanding how many miles from earth to the moon or interplanetary distances.
Another way to put it: America's wealth pie got 3x bigger over this time period, but 1/1000 of Americans now get a 5x bigger slice.
