Just to add—Shay Howe isn’t the only resource that makes margin seem like part of an element’s width/height. Many tutorials explain the box model this way, which can be confusing for developers.

Shay Howe’s Box Model chapter can make new devs think margin is part of an element’s width/height. But margin sits outside the box—it only affects spacing between elements, not the element’s own dimensions.
