Looks like this guy has old damage to its nose, maybe attacked or maybe frostbite? Still in great shape and a cutie.

Spring has been busy and it seems like this was a long time ago now. My first good sighting of a Great Blue Heron almost two weeks ago.

Just a fun close up of a Wild Turkey's head. A good view of its "hair", sporadic stubble, its beak changing from dark to light and its eye reflecting the sunny ground

Five Wild Turkey enjoying early Spring with a dust bath. This helps with parasites and general grooming and, well, maybe just feels good.

A Purple Finch is described as a bird who flew into a box of Raspberry Jello with red washing over its face, chest and back. While easily mistaken for other finch like the House or Cassin's it is the reddest of the bunch.

The red on the Redpoll's head is what is first noticeable but looking closer you can see the tailfeathers, bent down and to the right, through the thin wing feathers.

Having a stretch, I like the way the wing is translucent enough to see the tail feathers underneath.

I have a visual in my head, lol. I am around the same age and not as agile as I used to be! Again good for you and the goose. Next time I am going in with reckless abandon!

Good for you. A goose would not be easy to deal with safely. I need to learn the proper way to wrangle some of these birds so neither them nor I get hurt.

Never sure what to say or even if I should post but I've seen two waterfowl in the past two weeks with plastic on them. One was this Mallard the other a Black Scoter on the Northumberland Strait.

Two very different birds share a similar white , grey, yellow, black plumage. The biggest difference is size.

When I look quickly out the window at the feeder I often have to look twice. Despite big differences they look the same at a glance.

I didn’t get to hear this one at all- quiet for hunting I suppose. Would love to hear them.

A medium sized hawk perches on a hardwood branch. Its chest is a mottled rust colour. There are small amounts of blood on some talons. It is looking down for a small mammal to come along.

This Red-shouldered Hawk is a #NewBrunswick first for me. Found him "ditch hunting" along the hwy in Douglas.

Completely agree. I was trying to get shots of the Redhead and this guy kept getting in the way. All of a sudden it faced me and the viewfinder was full of bold colours. Quite gorgeous!

Not sure about longevity. There was also a pair (M&F) I photographed in Torryburn Water Treatment in Quispamsis in 2022 and I saw a female in 2024 in the water treatment plant in Salisbury. So they show up but not often.

Up close with a wrinkly-faced vulture. Its gorgeous brown feathers end at its forehead where its red skin is hidden by a dark stubble. The skin around the eye has less a crusty look than many of his type and his large nostril is covered in a brown crust of who knows what. Finally a white beak that looks like an afterthought.
