If you're not up on your UK politics, Wes Streeting is one of the most directly evil people who's ever been in the Labour party, and has dedicated himself to stripping rights, particularly of trans people, since the day of the election. I haven't directly written to my MP many times, but I did when Labour got into power, and it was to tell my Labour MP to do anything he can about getting Wes Streeting out of power. I used the word "monster" and I don't regret it. The reply I got back, from newly appointed first-time MP Michael Wheeler, told me "we must follow the Cass report," an already-by-then debunked far-right op-ed about how trans people should be disposed of. Wheeler has since backed down on this quite a bit, per a reply to a more recent letter from my wife, but nothing had changed in the time between, so he must just be an idiot who isn't particularly arsed about his job. Meanwhile, speaking of wheeling, Streeting here is currently scrambling about trying to survive after it emerged his close mentor was a dedicated friend of Epstein, which at this early juncture I'm not using as a euphemism, but he spent a heck of a lot of time with the guy and called him his "best pal". These are bad people. Streeting's editorial in Pink News is straight-up propaganda, and says only one thing, that trans people have his love and support. We don't yet have the numbers in for child suicides since Streeting came into office, but we do have them for the years leading up to it, it's not a low number, and Streeting has directly made their lives far, far scarier. This changes my view of Pink News as an organisation anyway. Comments on the article are hidden behind registration.
