Jonathon Shafi: The independence movement is more important than any party – Source "It seems to me the best possible mechanism we have is the independence movement itself. Shouldn’t we be spending time, thought, resources and discussion on how we can build a truly visionary, popular...

Rarely on Bluesky, and rarely respond to these types of things. Just to say if you read the article in full I’m talking more broadly about Palestine movement and establishment response to it. Would agree with some of your points. Written reflectively on 2016 too:

The US leadership is promoting disruptive forces on the radical right primarily to increase domestic political instability in Europe to secure regional hegemony. The same kind of tactics normally used against the global south. But this time the target is the Western hemisphere.

It was Biden who finally tore up the remnants of the liberal international order in-front of the world over the last 16 months. This is the reality that many can’t face. Because it shows there was nothing of substance or moral purpose behind the facade, even without Trump.

The International Criminal Court has finally issued arrest warrants for Netenyahu and a Gallant. Not before time. All complicit and active participants in the Gaza genocide must be held accountable. The UK gov must also uphold the ICC decision and end all arms exports to Israel.

UN Sec Council vote on: immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire; immediate and unconditional release of all hostages; immediate access to humanitarian assistance. 14 votes in favour. 1 against in the form of the United States veto. The brazen depravity is limitless.

It is likely that Reform will do well in the next round of elections. Think the best way for the left to develop opposition is on economic and class grounds. Farage is an ultra-Thatcherite, who would usher in nothing but further penury for millions of people.

Keir Starmer, Anas Sarwar and why Labour has a Scotland problem Scotland will be the “beating heart” of a Labour Government, but has Keir Starmer fulfilled his general election promise? And Anas Sarwar still…

For today’s @heraldscotland.bsky.social, I wrote about Labour’s Scotland problem.

That Trump cabinet is not just unabashedly insane, but highly combustible, especially given the world situation. Incredible this is where the US ruling class has ended up. And farcical that its vassals, including the UK, will fall in line regardless.

National Care Service classic case not only of implementation gap but short term headline grabbing without strategy. Common theme of Sturgeon era governance. KPMG recruited (for £655,200) to design at outset indicative of ongoing reliance on corporate outsourcing.

The proclaimed ideals of liberal universalism have been destroyed by liberals themselves. They set the tone, the context and the political environment for Trump to flourish. Gaza is the final proof of this.
