Postdoctoral position in Forest Genetics at @uni-freiburg.de with a focus on local adaptation and/or stress reaction of trees. The position combines research and teaching (4 SWS), and offers the opportunity to develop an independent research profile (4+ years).
After a long break, IUFRO Population & Conservation Genetics conferences are back!
Happening now, in Coimbatore (India), organized by IUFRO Unit 2.04.01 and APFORGEN, and hosted by ICFRE.

Teaching is fun! The ETH @evoltree.bsky.social block course "Genomics of Environmental Adapation" at @wslresearch.bsky.social is in full action now.
⚡️Abstract submission has been extended to 15 December!

Last week was a blast! Attending the @evoltree.bsky.social - @forgenius-eu.bsky.social conference hosted by INIA CSIC on "Integrative Diversity of Forest Ecosystems" was unforgettable.
Today's field trip: selecting continental site for @optforests.bsky.social project in cooperation with local forest managers and representatives of Slovenian state forests. Found a great candidate in the Kočevsko region.
This week was one of my favourite conferences #evoltree in Madrid. I was happy to chat with a lot of people about our work and to present our beech pangenome. As always I heard and learned from a lot of great speakers. Thanks @evoltree.bsky.social 💚
Final words from Delphine and Beppe, and the Joint EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS Conference is closed. It was great fun to discuss science with all you! Enjoy your weekend! And don't miss the next #EVOLTREE Conference in 2027 (venue to be announced soon)!
Amazing field trip with the #EvolTREE conference. Wonderful to learn of the new breeding efforts in Cork oak and Holm oak, integrations of new technologies, and degree of monitoring for conservation that has leveraged, expanded, and established leadership in genetic conservation
Some key moments of my EVOLTREE experience. Always a pleasure to join the EVOLTREE conference and be part the community!

Marija Kravanja, one of the PhD students supported by an #EVOLTREE grant to attend the conference, presented an original study using FORGENIUS data on the correlation between genetic diversity and resilience, as estimated by restoration rates obtained from satellite data.
Victoria Sork from UCLA opened the session 5 on genetic conservation by presenting common garden and landscape genomics approaches to study maladaptation and guide conservation in Californian oaks #EVOLTREE
Genomic selection and genomics in tree breeding - Keynote from Fikret Isik for session 4 of the EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS in Madrid
Modelling the ideal loblolly pine for climate change. Fascinating keynote from Marylou Mantova for Session 3 of the EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS conference
Mona Schreiber‘s graphical summary of Session 2 keynote of Silvia Matesanz at the EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS conference
We had a magical night at the #EVOLTREE conference dinner, with live folk music, excellent food, and a warm tribute to Beppe Vendramin, a very dear member of our community ❤️
Visit to one of the Spanish National Breeding Centres. Spain has 327 Genetic Conservation Units (GCUs) involving 20 main tree species, 228 of which have been genetically characterised! #EVOLTREE
A creative way of taking notes at the EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS conference. Mona Schreiber‘s graphical summary of David O‘Brien‘s keynote from yesterday.
Santiago González-Martínez from @inrae-france.bsky.social, our own #EVOLTREE coordinator, gave a talk on the connections between genetic diversity, historical demography, and rates of adaptive evolution in 4 species of conifers. He also cautioned on the applicability of genomic forecasting methods.
Second Day starts with an amazing keynote talk on genetic adaptation and phenotypic plasticity by Silvia Matesanz from URJC. Great talk Silvia! #EVOLTREE
So happy to be with European colleagues in Madrid for #EvolTREE to share new ideas, technologies, and applications of forest genetics to conservation, restoration, breeding, and much, much more
Christian Rellstab (WSL, Switzerland) presented how hybridisation and admixture enhance drought tolerance in oaks. This work was supported by an #EVOLTREE Opportunity grant, a program that provides niche funding for research in forest genetics and genomics. www.evoltree.eu/funding-init...
David O'Brien opens the first session ("New Tools for Science to Reach Practice") of the Joint EVOLTREE-FORGENIUS conference with an entertaining talk on how to communicate to politicians, practitioners and the public.
