Refugees and immigrants deserve safety and dignity. The Southeast Asian Deportation Relief Act #SEADRA brings immediate relief to community members who live with day-to-day fears of deportation. We call on members of Congress to support SEADRA. Join us today: linktr.ee/searac. @searac.bsky.social
My latest is the story of how my community has rallied to protect and defend our neighbors in recent days, as ICE has targeted the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago. "This is not a story about a moment of victory, but a moment of being reminded of our power."
"The decision unmasks the outright lie that these raids are about protecting public safety from serious threats. The Supreme Court majority makes clear that average non-white workers are targets" Chris Newman, Legal Director, NDLON

Another life lost to immigration detention: Last month Lorenzo Antonio Batrez Vargas, 32, died while in ICE custody on August 31 in AZ. ICE had detained Mr. Batrez Vargas at Central Arizona Correctional Complex in Florence, AZ and has reported that the cause of his death is currently known.
🚨BREAKING 🚨
The Supreme Court on Monday overturned an order that had blocked ICE from committing egregious racial profiling, as they did in raids in Los Angeles earlier this year.

🚨ALERT: ICE & other feds raided the Home Depot parking lot on Rhode Island this morning (8/12) and detained approx 15 people who were both workers and shoppers.
Multiple agencies were involved and the cowards were masked. 1/
There aren’t shelter beds for everyone living outside.
There aren’t treatment facilities for everyone living outside.
You cannot jail & fine your way out of homelessness.
NO to family separations & mass incarceration! New legislation would supercharge criminal prosecutions for migration.

What can Congress members do to fight against these attacks and protect immigrant communities?
1. Oversight visits to ICE detention centers
2. Restrict and reject more funding for ICE
3. Oppose anti-immigrant legislation
Trump’s budget rewards states that collaborate with ICE and participate in federal programs like 287g, which allows local law enforcement to act as immigration agents.

Trump’s budget bill included $45 BILLION for the wasteful and deadly border wall - and another $30 BILLION to hire more agents, bonuses, & operations related to detention and deportation.
Here's @immigrantjustice.bsky.social breakdown of this harmful new law.

Across the country, we’ve seen ICE agents kidnap people off the streets and take them hundreds of miles away from their family and legal counsel.

As immigrant communities continue to face direct attacks by ICE, members of Congress have a role to play by calling for transparency, accountability, and due process.
🧵Congressional briefing on immigration
@chuygarcia.house.gov hosted a congressional briefing with @the-ilrc.bsky.social @detentionwatchnetwork.org & @immigrantjustice.bsky.social to sound the alarm on the expansion of immigration enforcement and detention.
ICE will be handed tens of billions of dollars to continue carrying out Trump's cruel plans of mass deportations. Taxpayer money that could be used for housing, education, food security NOT deportations. Our communities deserve so much better.
NEW: I spoke with a woman named Andrea about her experience being detained by ICE after calling the cops for help during a domestic violence incident.
She was recently postpartum, breastfeeding & put in an all-male facility. She was detained for 2.5 months.
Important explainer on the Supreme Court decision regarding birthright citizenship.
🚨 US Supreme Court Limits Ability to Block Trump Policies Nationwide 🚨
Today, the Supreme Court ruled to limit federal judges' ability to issue nationwide injunctions — a major blow to efforts that block unconstitutional policies like Trump's attack on birthright citizenship🧵
Such a crystal clear example of how an attack on immigrant rights is an attack on all of our rights. Thank you for your clarity @the-ilrc.bsky.social
The harder they attack our rights, the more we must defiantly insist on on our rights.
Our client, Luis, followed immigration law and was detained for it. He said, “But now I see that they don’t respect the processes just the same. It’s just about numbers.”

This is not about "public safety".
It's about intimidating cities who refuse to participate in Trump's mass deportation efforts.
Across the country, people are organizing and protecting their immigrant neighbors.
