😪 Honestly I get the psychology behind voters giving them a majority, but I am not a fan of this government and not happy about this.

It's Yom Hashoah, which is the Israeli day of remembrance of the Holocaust. So I'll take the opportunity to note that there is another day of remembrance coming up, here in NYC. On April 19 we honor the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, a Bundist tradition since 1947

Pretty damn shameful.
"Fani’s firing came after an intense campaign of cyberbullying he faced, led by conservative agitator Ari Hoffman, whom UW President Robert J. Jones recently sat down with at a town hall event."😕
Much of my professional engagement w/ Robeson is through his passionate reception by Jewish audiences and their attendant politics, so hearing the phenomenon of the Robesons presented for Black exploration and appreciation by @thisamericanlife.org and @nicholehill.bsky.social has made my week:
Orwell: "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command."
Hugely important study on the (mal)distribution of resources in academia - must read. Perhaps no issue is more important right now, yet completely under-discussed 🗃️
Eliminating libraries in prisons is a disaster, completely shortsighted. Libraries are a lifeline for incarcerated people who want to learn and grow, and have few other options.
internet archive has huge amounts of old stuff uploaded

Screenshot from Facebook mobile showing a German language advertisement for Facebook Meta AI app The suggested AI generated reel shows children kneeling and looking at some slugs on the sidewalk which are crawling along wearing "hasidic" clothes

We're looking forward to seeing you there!
Our latest from @kylebazgo.bsky.social: a look at 8 of the most insane fascist and antisemitic accounts JD Vance follows on X. No idea why mainstream outlets don’t think it’s notable he follows people who joke about Holocaust denial and an account that says Hitler was “the lesser evil.”
The other thing is that in a gig economy there is no degree that promises a good career anymore, not because you should have studied computer science or social media management instead of history or Russian literature, but because there are no careers
I'm a chapter or two in, good book
Absolutely one of my top 3 star trek characters but also not knowing what's true is part of his magnetism
Image from The Simpsons of Lenny saying “It’s bringing love! Don’t let it get away! Break its legs!”

here's a fun one: I've got someone looking for "science fiction novels that involve chickens--possibly some kind of galactic chicken." I'm stumped, anyone know any titles?
this all reminds me of one of my favorite esoteric quotes from history. durnovo’s rant about the duma.
“In other words, the opposition demands that the Government should adopt the psychology of a savage, and worship the idol which he himself made.”

I've studied so many concentration camps through history that held vulnerable people in just this kind of crowded squalor. You demonize people, you demand more arrests, this is what you get. It already has its own budget and its own momentum, and is on track to go much further, unless we stop it.
sadly I won't be going (don't trust ICE) but this festival in Portland looks great.
includes some good friends of mine like Chaia, Christina Crowder, Shpilkis, and some cool artists I hadn't heard of before.
I am deeply concerned about the fact that Iran is really good at propaganda, they’re antisemitic as fuck, and they’re aiming they’re incredibly good antisemitic propaganda at us at the exact time the American populace is most primed to receive antisemitic messages.
headline: gen z doesn't want your full-time job. They want several part-time roles, and it's reshaping the entire workforce.
This is propaganda.
What was the triumph though? 😒
gorgeous, thanks @bluma.bsky.social
I finally got around to watching I Saw the TV Glow (2024) lately and that features in an early scene. with a queer vibe about it which tracks with my childhood memories of doing it
that winged words page is great. love it. would make a very striking style for a mural or tattoo

we’re winning
that is my reaction to this photo as well, especially with two idle cats always poking and prodding at things. then again I did recently relocate a huge bookshelf to my bedroom, but not angled in a way that will crush me in my sleep
was tinkering around with rewriting some passages on this tonight. so much is still sadly relevant a century later and in completely different contexts. the racism, the contempt for the health and dignity of non-citizens, the way a cross-partisan repressive apparatus takes on a nightmarish momentum.
