Guess who discovered that Velcro shoes are the best face scratchers in the universe?

All of these arguments were mustered against wind-power and dispensed with!
(maybe if you're close enough the flickering shadows might make you lose your mind, and if you're a bird you might be shredded...)
So many things are remarkable about Prince (the amount of composition, arrangement, production, performance that was *him* is crazy). The most remarkable to me is that he just made whatever music he wanted.
He could have pulled a Pearl Jam or AC/DC and made the same album 15 times but he didn't!
"Donnie from Queens you're on line 1" continues to explain the majority of *gestures vaguely*
Indeed!
The approaches that have recognized it's not going away and have added the functionality we expect in a modern 'language' have succeeded, like `dbt`.
Introducing other ideas like the "pipe" / a more functional (vs declarative) style are also sure to extend the evidently infinite lifespan.

When the world is plunged into nuclear winter, these will be the survivors.
The Friendship is Magic (4th generation) stuff is honestly decent.
The newest Make Your Mark (5th Gen) stuff is bad bad bad. Everyone's incredibly annoying.
This is going to bug me all week.
It was, what, over 50 years before a half apology for that whole "comfort women" thing?
Japan-South Korea finally cleared up some stuff (read: atrocities) in 2023!

Wait... There are people who argue we were too hard on *Japan*?! War crime trials hit a snag and we all just... shrugged and gave up?
Is the author of the manifesto an imperial Japanese time traveler?
The other day she let the youngest rub hand soap all over her while she was playing in some running water.
She then enjoyed the sponge bath that required, because of course she did.
Potty independence butting up against absurd cat behavior!
Scrubbed through to check the sections and I'm 99% sure this is where I learned about MoH recipient James Hendrix

Yeah I don't disagree. The "AI" voice is a barrier even if a human wrote a script.
I regularly listen to news articles and I prefer the older obvious robot voices over the newer ones that are *closer* to human, but slip now and then.
Different strokes, and in a few years we'll all look silly
It's sad, but many of these great channels have had to edit the description to highlight that they were created before AI tools or that that don't use it now.
I hope the magic of YouTube never dies. So many gems.
may also enjoy this 3 hour youtube documentary, very granular and detailed but still manages to be dramatic for that

I've already seen it!
Great channel
Two large stuffed bears, confusingly named "Yep" and "Nope"!
Discovered in a very confusing Abbott and Costello routine that my girls named these bears "Yep" and "Nope".
He's clearly a loyal friend, and he must make more than $0 for Netflix, so the experiment continues!
Did I just trick myself into watching Band of Brothers again?
I think I did.
Really puts in perspective how crazy the events of the Battle of the Bulge were
Kampfgruppe Peiper having to turn around a bunch of times to find crossings, restaurant retake towns, etc was very condensed.
Elsenborn Ridge isn't that big either!
Let's hope they don't bother improving!
A few years ago I made a deal with myself:
Every 8-12 months I pick up an introductory Linear Algebra book until I stop learning something new each time. (Some revisits are short, others are proofy, etc)
@matloff.bsky.social's new LA book is good and I'll post a review eventually, for example.
Intro to Linear Algebra: VMLS
Simon Wood's GAM book, naturally
But I'll highlight one that's not a ringer.
VMLS is what you get when 2 dudes wonder "what if we introduce LA by equipping the reader with Least Squares, & then motivate them by stuffing LS into a cannon and blasting it at stuff?"
It's surprisingly effective!

In a weird way, the rise of those plastic-voiced AI ads (primarily video, but not exclusively) has rendered them supremely ignorable.
Has anyone else found that adapting to no longer see/hear them has been trivial? I both hope you aren't all suffering, but I also hope my peace endures...
Canonical "highest highs and lowest lows".
The man made Jack and Jill and the Ridiculous 6.
He also made Uncut Gems and Happy Gilmore.
He cannot be contained!
And of course there's his broader record on civil rights stuff not related to his being a huge racist.
The Palmer Raids!
The Senate didn't even ratify the LoN! Failed twice. Wilson was totally unwilling to negotiate (he was a megalomaniac and a huge jerk).
He only pretended to support women's suffrage after it was obviously going to happen and after a career of being a misogynist.
Wilson was planning to run for a third term before he was incapacitated!
Wilson wasn't just power hungry, he was a virulent racist. Re-segregated the civil service, etc.
FDR's 4 terms are Victor Orban like, but you didn't hear that from me ๐
He deserves credit for being responsive enough to push/support EPA.
Lunar program had lots of momentum /shrug
Vietnam is too complicated but I don't think he was uniquely the problem (see: Johnson). Mixed, mostly bad legacy there.
Had he won 1960 I imagine he'd have been a very different POTUS.
