What Autism Acceptance Really Means: Moving Beyond Awareness Every April, the internet turns blue, or gold, depending on which camp you're in. Organisations post infographics, celebrities share statistics, well-meaning people express gratitude for the Autistic people in their lives; as though our existence requires annual acknowledgement to remain valid. This all happens until May arrives, and we disappear again, fading back into the obscured margins that society keeps us in.

The annual focus on autism awareness in April often leads to fleeting recognition rather than meaningful change. Awareness campaigns perpetuate stereotypes and fail to address the underlying issues faced by Autistic individuals. Genuine acceptance requires the work of liberation
