also death of the author was never meant to mean "enjoy this work despite the creator who is still alive and benefiting from this work using their power and wealth to harm people" it's meant to be used in a literary analysis way that's like "despite the author's intentions, your own interpretation is just as valid and meaningful and the author's intention isn't any more valid than yours, because now that this work is out into the world, the experience of the people who interacted with that work belongs to them, and their reading of the work is just as correct and maybe brings even more nuance and depth to the table than the author ever meant for or thought of. the fact that the author didn't intend something doesn't make it a wrong reading of a work" while at the same time understanding that authors have their own biases and experiences that did influence the work, for good or for bad, and being able to acknowledge these things but not letting them get in the way of your own interpretation, because ultimately it's limiting (ESPECIALLY in fandom spaces. think of queer readings of characters the authors never intended, but are still REAL and valid because WE make it real). death of the author does nOT mean "it's totally okay to support this thing despite the author using their wealth and power to help take the rights away from a marginalized group of people"

it’s a valid feeling, honestly. i feel like art is being attacked pretty viciously right now, but artists have always been attacked before and things evolve. Art’s gonna be really tough but I’m trying to stay positive about the outlook.
