Driving, like life in general, is so much less stressful when you treat making room for others and being a safe person for others as a core part of the task, rather than jostling for every possible advantage and seeing yourself in opposition to or in competition with the people around you.

It's that time of year again. The site remains stable with all of its archival material! I'm in a cert program for industrial maintenance, hoping to secure apprentice hours for an eventual journeyperson credential. But I've been unemployed for a year, and my 2025 income was about $3,000 gross.

there are now hunger strikes in at least two immigrant prisons: North Lake here in MI and Moshannon in PA.

folks inside in PA say one of their comrades vomited a nasty green and guards told them it was just a cold.

folks in MI are talking about months in prison with no idea what's happening.

ICE detained more than 70 Minnesota children, data reveals Immigration officials detained more than 70 Minnesota children between Dec. 1 and March 10, a Sahan analysis of court records and federal deportation data shows.

70 Minnesota children.

Delta Air Lines, who likely flew nearly all of these kiddos out of MSP, could publicly condemn this and end the practice tomorrow, as the airlines did in 2018 with family separation, but it’s easier to stay silent.

The "private prisons" line many people use is well-intended but misleading. For-profit prisons incarcerate less than 10% of the prison population. The problem isn't for-profit prisons... it's the American institution of prison altogether.

Unhappy to report the phishing one is quickly becoming a real problem now. Why go to the trouble of social engineering when people will just give up their ID, financial info, biometrics, etc. to an AV portal? There's no standards so how can you differentiate a fake one from a real one?

Families left reeling after hospitals in blue states drop transgender care for youth Massachusetts passed laws and joined lawsuits to protect access to gender-affirming care for minors. But faced with the Trump administration's threats, some hospitals voluntarily stopped care.

"It just felt like the floor had fallen out. Like all the support that I thought we had was gone. Maybe this is naive, but I didn't think that would happen in Massachusetts."

there is functionally a conspiracy to gaslight you into believing that, so it's understandable

Poor people are just supposed to move every three years in a big loop around their broader metro area to make sure that we can keep building luxury condos forever at a rate that never materially fixes anything for anyone

Reopen the Golden Door Repeal The Immigration and Nationality Act: immigration restrictionism is the Slave Power of the 21st century

"Thousands dead, as an explicit policy goal. All of it costing the American people billions of dollars a year—ICE alone received roughly $70 billion in the 2025 reconciliation bill—billions that could be used for the actual health and actual welfare of its citizens. And for what?"

I thought this article was great but one thing I would just add, personally, is that I enjoy the sensation of control. Spotify can remove/censor an album tomorrow but unless my apartment burns down I've got the vinyl/CD/tape right here, and it's the same as when I bought it.

Total dismantlement of the USA as a political entity would be a just and *minimal* demand to redress the harms that have *already* been done. You understand that, right?

on the east coast here we used to all play the video game in computer class constantly (+name the characters after our friends/enemies/teachers & cheerfully inform each other in real time when/how we all died) but I think we only briefly learned about it in history class like once
